After meeting the president on January 20, 2000; the team is feeling quite ambassadorish. The mens' and womens' collegiate teams will not be playing at their peaks for at least another month, but with the international flair this contest has to offer, it will be a valuable experience for players, coaches, and fans alike. Assistant coach Catherine Elizabeth Nelson had a few words on the event. "We feel that this will be a wonderful opportunity for our team to participate in an international game. Of course there are different playing styles (as with any team that we play) which should be exciting as well as challenging. We are thrilled to open our season against a team that we have never faced before too. After the game, the Japanese and UMD are going to get together for a tailgate so that the players can meet each other and get to know each other - which should be fun too!!" Let's hope the Japanese girls know English. We here at lax.com are calling for the Terrapins to lay a beatin' on the Japanese team, but this game symbolizes much more than winners and losers. This game represents the pinnacle of athletic spirit and should not be missed if you are in the area. We urge parents to bring their children to watch on an exciting day of lacrosse and good will.
