The Providence College lacrosse team released its 2009 schedule on Tuesday, December 2. Under Head Coach Chris Burdick, the Friars have made NCAA Tournament appearances in three of the past five seasons. The Friars will be competing in the MAAC for the last time in 2009. Providence will move to the newly created BIG EAST Lacrosse Conference in 2010.
Providence will open their season on the road against defending national champion Syracuse on Sunday, February 15. PC will then begin its home slate of action on February 28 at the Friar Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex against Hobart.
On March 5, the Friars will begin a stretch of three road games beginning with a game against Ivy League foe Yale. From there, Providence will travel to Chapel Hill, North Carolina to take on the Tar Heels on March 11. PC will conclude the road trip with a game against conference foe VMI.
PC will return home to face Quinnipiac on March 18 before heading out on the road again to take on Wagner on March 21. The Friars will begin a two-game homestand against 2008 MAAC Tournament Champion Canisius on March 28 and MAAC foe St. Joseph's on April 4.
On April 7, the Friars head out for a two game road trip beginning at Dartmouth and then at Mount St. Mary's on April 11.
The Friars return to Providence on April 15 to take on Marist and will then host cross-town rival Brown on April 18. Following their final away game of the season at Manhattan, Providence will conclude their season at home against MAAC opponent Siena on April 25.
The 2009 MAAC Championships will be held on the campus of Canisius College in Buffalo, New York on May 1-3. The winner will earn an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament, beginning May 9.
