Evan James and Riley Seay scored goals in the game's first three minutes Saturday, helping Loyola University Maryland to a 4-0 lead at the end of the first quarter that it would raise to 8-2 at halftime, and the Greyhounds went on to a 14-10 victory over the U.S. Naval Academy in Patriot League action at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium. Kevin Lindley scored three goals and tied his career-high with two assists, while Joey Kamish logged two goals and two assists and Aidan Olmstead had a pair of goals and an assist in the victory. Bailey Savio helped the Greyhounds (5-3 overall, 3-1 Patriot League) control possession throughout the contest, winning 19 of 28 faceoffs with 16 ground balls. James put the Greyhounds on the board early as Lindley initiated behind the cage and threw to Lindley who was cutting to the middle for the game's first goal less than 90 seconds in. Just over a minute later, Seay made it a 2-0 lead when he caught an Olmstead feed from behind and scored on a one-timer from the crease at 12:24. The teams were scoreless for more than 11 minutes before Dan Wigley posted the first of his two goals with less than a minute top play in the first quarter. Wigley dodged his defender and shook off a check before dropping his hands for a low-to-low shot that found the net with 47 seconds on the clock to increase the lead to three. Kamish scored on an Adam Poitras assist 1:50 into the second quarter, and the Greyhounds were in front, 4-0, before Navy (3-1, 1-1) got on the board with two-straight goals. Jon Jarosz's tally at 8:17 cut the lead in half, 4-2, but Loyola would respond with another 4-0 run. Seay started this one with a goal off a Poitras assist, and Olmstead added his first as he shot from inside seven yards after Liam Bateman created space with a dodge and pass. Ryan McNulty added one in transition when Lindley threw to him at the top of the box, and the long-stick midfielder stepped into a shot that went in-and-out of the stick of Navy goalkeeper Spencer Rees. Lindley added the fourth goal of the run to make it 8-2 before halftime when he scored his first of the day off a Kamish ass with 24 ticks left in the period. Christian Daniel scored 53 seconds into the third quarter, but Peter Swindell responded with a goal less than a minute later. A hard Kamish shot ricocheted off Reed and bounced right to Swindell who scooped it up and scored. Daniel tallied his second of the day at 11:06, but Loyola reeled off three in a row over the next seven minutes. Lindley had two in a row, the first on a McNulty assist and the second unassisted when he dodged from behind the cage. Wigley pushed the lead to eight, 12-4, with 4:17 left in the third with his second unassisted goal. Navy scored twice in the last three minutes of the third quarter, but Olmstead and Kamish each had goals in the first 2:15 of the fourth, stretching the lead to 14-6 before Navy scored the game's last four goals. Sam Shafer made 12 saves in goal for the Greyhounds, including two on a Navy man-up possession late in the second quarter with his second save in that series leading to a Loyola goal. Loyola plays another service academy next week when the U.S. Military Academy visits Ridley Athletic Complex for a 1 o'clock game on Saturday, April 10.
