The #20 Navy women's lacrosse team (3-0) jumped out to an early lead and did not look back as the Midshipmen posted a 22-2 victory over George Washington on Saturday afternoon at the GW Lacrosse Field at the Mount Vernon Athletic Complex. The Mids led 14-0 at halftime, marking the first time since 2016 that Navy held a team scoreless in a half, subsequently, also against George Washington. The two goals allowed was the fewest by the Mids' defense since holding GW to one goal in a 9-1 win on March 2, 2016. It was the most goals scored by the Midshipmen since posting a 22-6 win over Holy Cross in 2019. "We played well, and we are happy" head coach Cindy Timchal said after the game. "We got another game in. I thought the team had a pretty solid performance. I thought our clears were better today. We were able to finish on offense. We were aggressive on defense, but we played disciplined. We mixed it up on the draw and winning draws was a big part of our success today. We were able to get a lot of players in today and not lose any type of intensity. I am extremely happy with our performance today." Offensively, twelve different Midshipmen scored at least one goal with seven notching multiple scores in the game. Nicole Victory (Issaquah, Wash.) paced the offensive attack with a team-high seven points on four goals and three assists to lead the team in each category. She was joined by Marina Lazarides (Westminster, Md.) who also added three goals for her second hat trick of the year. Leelee Denton (Nashville, Tenn.), Ellie Lecker (Ponte Vedra, Fla.), Karoline Nease (Richmond, Va.), Reagan Roelofs (Apple Valley, Minn.), and Charlotte Ryan (Tully, N.Y.) chipped in two goals apiece in the win. Navy finished the game with eight assists on its 22 goals, led by Victory's three helpers. Navy dominated the circle, winning 18 of 25 draws on the day. In the first half, the Mids claimed 14 of 15 draws. Led by Roelofs who won eight draws, eight different Midshipmen won at least one draw. Joining Roelofs with multiple draws were Gil Eby (Towson, Md.) and Nease who claimed three and two, respectively. The Mids spent a majority of the day in the offensive third of the field, but were able to convert all five clear attempts in the game. Defensively, Navy caused seven turnovers, while picking up eight ground balls. Six different Midshipmen were credited with caused turnovers, while eight different Mids picked up ground balls in the game. The defensive unit held the Colonials scoreless for 31:39, marking the first time Navy held a team scoreless in a half since 2016. The defense limited George Washington to six total shots with just three shots on goal. The Midshipmen split time between the pipes with Abbi Young (Alamo, Calif.) and Annie Maloney (Ellicott City, Md.) working one half apiece. Young did not allow a goal as the Navy defense held GW to just two shots in the first half. Maloney recorded a save, while allowing a pair of goals. Navy opened the game with six goals in the first have minutes of action to take control early. Nease, who made her first collegiate start in the game, netted a pair of goals in the first five minutes of action with her first goal ultimately proving to be the game-winning goal. The scoring continued as the Mids added four more goals over the next 10 minutes to push the lead to 10 and enact a running clock. The Midshipmen finished with 14 goals in the first half, which was more goals than Navy had scored in the previous two contests this year. Nine different Midshipmen scored a goal in the first half, including four that notched multiple goals. Victory completed the first-half hat trick with three goals, while Lazarides, Lecker, and Nease chipped in two apiece. Playing in her first collegiate game, Ryan scored a first-half goal, while adding an assist in the stanza. In the second half, George Washington broke up the shutout with a goal, but Navy responded with five consecutive scores to push the lead to 19-1. Denton scored a pair of goals in the 5-0 run, marking her first colligate goals. Following a Colonial goal, the Mids closed out the game with three goals by Ryan, Athena Corroon (Greenwich, Conn.), and Addie Hamilton (Columbus, Ohio) to provide the final margin of victory, 22-2. Navy returns to action on Sunday, March 7 as the Midshipmen welcome Bucknell to Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium for the first Patriot League Conference game since 2019.
