The Bucknell women's lacrosse team began the Jackie Dando era by doubling up Sacred Heart, 18-9, on Saturday at Graham Field. Bolstered by a seven-point outing by Eve Calabria and a game-opening 7-0 run, the Bison emerged victorious in their first ever meeting with the Pioneers. Morgan Steinhacker (3g-1a) and Lillie Hunt (1g-3a) also enjoyed four-point efforts while 10 different Bison found the back of the net. Though Sacred Heart drew within four goals, at 13-9, with 9:11 on the clock in the second half, Bucknell answered with five unanswered goals to put the game out of reach. During that 5-0 run, Katie Wendell and Olivia Zaban each netted her first collegiate goal. Defensively, Abby Neff was a force; she logged seven ground balls, one shy of the Bison's school record, and five caused turnovers, a figure tied for fourth in school history. Tace Sutherland also had a strong game, causing four turnovers. In net, Lauren Kinnee made five saves while Caitlin Tucker stopped three shots. Steinhacker (4), Julia Bradbury (4), Jessie Britton (3) and Mason Rode (3) all posted at least three draw controls; notably, Steinhacker became the ninth Bison to register at least 100 career draw controls on the strength of her total. Calabria's seven points came on three goals and four assists; her previous career high in points was six, set against Lafayette on four goals and two assists in 2017. For the Pioneers, Shana Hecht made 12 saves while Lydia Werlau (3g-2a) and Grace Reinold (3g-1a) led the offense. Claire McElhenny posted a game-best eight ground balls and tied Elizabeth Small for the team-lead with three caused turnovers. The Bison held advantages in shots (37-25), shots on goal (30-17) and draw controls (19-11); the teams were even, 20-20, in ground balls. Bucknell limited Sacred Heart to 20-for-26 on its clear attempts. The Bison next travel to Binghamton (Feb. 12 at 4 p.m.) and Hofstra (Feb. 15 at 2 p.m.).
