13 different players scored and the Irish didn't allow a single shot on goal as Notre Dame remained undefeated with a 27-0 victory over Kent State this afternoon inside Loftus Sports Center. The 27 goals and 27-goal margin of victory are both the highest recorded in program history. This was also the first shutout for the Irish since April 9th, 2010 vs. Villanova. HOW IT HAPPENED The Irish dominated the contest from the opening draw, scoring six goals in the first nine minutes of play and 18 in the first half. Notre Dame added another nine markers in the final 30 minutes to account for the 27-0 final. Sophomore Andie Aldave paced the Irish offense with four goals, while junior Cassie Ford and freshman Hannah Dorney each recorded hat tricks. Mollie Carr, Katie Enrietto, Maddie Howe, Samantha Lynch, Jessi Masinko, Nikki Ortega and Haley Schultz each scored a pair of goals. Olivia Jacobsen scored her first career marker in the victory, and the Irish also received tallies from Cailin Field and Erin McBride to round out the scoring. Aldave (4G, 1A) and Ford (3G, 2A) led Notre Dame with five points and five draw controls each. As a team, Notre Dame converted on 8-of-11 free-position shots, collected 17 ground balls and caused 11 turnovers. Senior Samantha Giacolone, sophomore Bridget Deehan and junior Grace Steffens each saw time in goal for Notre Dame. NOTABLE NUMBERS This is the first 5-0 start for Notre Dame since 2016. The Irish also started 4-0 or better in 2013, 2012, 2006 and 2004. The Irish have scored the first goal in each of their first five contests and have only trailed for 3:14 out of the 300 minutes of play this season. The Irish have scored 100 goals and racked up 156 points in their first five victories. Maddie Howe leads the Irish with 24 points (15G, 9A) while Samantha Lynch paces the team with 19 goals scored. Six players have at least 10 points for the Irish this season, including Howe, Lynch, Andie Aldave (12G, 7A), Jessi Masinko (9G, 10A), Mollie Carr (11G, 4A) and Nikki Ortega (8G, 6A). Notre Dame has caused 71 turnovers in five games. Aldave leads the Irish with 41 draw controls this season and Savannah Buchanan ranks second on the team with 26. UP NEXT Notre Dame opens ACC play next Saturday (March 2) at home vs. Louisville at 2 p.m. That contest will be streamed live on ACC Network Extra and admission is free for all inside Loftus Sports Center.
