GAINESVILLE, Fla. – It took a bit of last-second heroics, but the No. 4/4 Syracuse women's lacrosse team gets the job done against yet another ranked opponent, this time the No.16/RV Florida Gators. Freshman Meaghan Tyrrell converted a free-position attempt with eight second left on the clock to give the Orange a 14-13 victory. HOW IT HAPPENED The Gators (3-4) got on the board first with a goal from Kassidy Bresnahan 1:11 into the game. Then Syracuse took over. Sophomore Sam Swart got the Orange (7-2) into the scoring column, sparking the Orange offense. Three goals from senior Emily Hawryschuk, another goal from Swart, and goals from junior Vanessa Costantino and redshirt junior Mary Rahal gave Syracuse a 7-1 lead before Florida got back on the board with 11:17 left in the half. Hawryschuk would respond with her fourth of the evening, and then the Gators started to whittle away at the Syracuse lead. Florida went on a 4-0 run before Rahal ended the half with a goal to give the Orange a 9-6 lead heading into the break. Florida wouldn't let up coming out of the locker room. The Gators opened the half with back-to-back goals from Grace Haus and Lindsey Ronbeck. Senior Nicole Levy would then find the back of the net for her first of the evening, keeping Syracuse's lead at 10-8 with 20:33 left. Florida followed up the 'Cuse goal with another two, tying the game with 13:52 left. The Gators and Orange traded goals, keeping the score tied at 11-11 with 10:41 left. Tyrrell and Levy would both find the back of the net for both players' second of the evening, giving Syracuse a 13-11 lead with 5:11 left in the game. Florida got one back quickly, with Ronbeck scoring just more than 30 seconds later. The scoring seemed to be done until Ronbeck tallied a goal, her fifth of the game, with 44 seconds left on the clock, tying the game at 13-13. Syracuse wasn't going to give Florida the chance to send it to overtime. The Orange won the ensuing draw and Tyrrell drew a foul inside the arc, giving her the chance to score the game winner. The freshman charged forward and beat the Gators' goaltender high on the stick side to put Syracuse ahead 14-13 with eight seconds on the clock. Florida won the draw but couldn't get off a shot as the Orange recorded the victory. OF NOTE Syracuse thrives on scoring runs this season. The Orange's 7-0 run in the first half marks the program's eighth run of 5-0 or more this season. It is also the team's fifth run of 7-0 or more. Levy's two goals on the evening give her 130 in her career. The tally puts her at No. 10 on the Syracuse all-time goal list. She also ranks No. 10 on the career points list. Tyrrell has been dominant as a freshman attack for the Orange. The Mt. Sinai, N.Y. native has had a hat trick in three games this season and ranks third on the team in goals (17) behind Hawryschuk and Levy. Junior goalkeeper Asa Goldstock recorded 12 saves, marking the second consecutive game in which she has reached double figures in saves. UP NEXT Syracuse ends its three-game road trip with an ACC matchup at the Louisville Cardinals on Sunday, March 17. Opening draw is scheduled for noon on ACC Network Extra.
