NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The University of Massachusetts women's lacrosse program improved to 4-2 on the season after an 18-7 defeat over Vanderbilt on Friday afternoon. Alex Finn led the Minutewomen with four goals in the contest. Four Minutewomen posted hat-tricks, led by Finn who had four goals and two assists to lead with six points total, followed by Kelly Marra, Kendra Harbinger, and Olivia Muscella with three each. Fiona McGowan was the only other UMass player to post a multi-goal game, while Amy Moreau, Quinn Daly, and Kylee Bowen each tabbed a goal in the victory. Audra Tosone caused three Commodore turnovers, picked up two ground balls while also leading with three draw controls. Courtney Barrett notched four ground balls to lead the Minutewomen, also causing two turnovers. Gina Carroll picked up her fourth win of the season with eight saves in the effort. Vanderbilt started off with a two-goal advantage, scoring early in the first quarter. Alex Finn put the Minutewomen on the board at the 9:57 mark, but the Commodores answered just over a minute later. The Minutewomen netted two-straight goals to tie the game up before the end of the first quarter. UMass opened the second frame with a pair of goals to take the lead to 5-3, and the Commodores would not see another lead in the contest. Heading into halftime, UMass posted a 6-4 lead over the hosts. Vanderbilt brought the score within one, in the opening two minutes of the second half, but Massachusetts took off on a 7-0 run through the third quarter to have the 13-5 lead at the close. Bri Gross snapped the Minutewomen scoring streak, but Alex Finn answered to start another 5-goal run for UMass who took the 18-7 victory in Nashville. Massachusetts will return to action on Tuesday, March 15 against Siena College in Loudonville. First draw is set for 3 p.m.
