The Elmhurst men's lacrosse team captured their first win of the 2021 season, defeating MSOE 12-7. The Run Down Final Score: Elmhurst 12, MSOE 7 Records: Elmhurst 1-0, MSOE 0-1 Location: Elmhurst, Ill. After a pair of goals from Ben Luke and an unassisted goal from Ethan Stepanek, the Bluejays led 3-0 at the end of the first quarter. Luke secured a hattrick by scoring a man-up goal from Yandall at the start of the second quarter. Tanner Whipps scored a minute later to put the Raiders on the board (4-1). The Bluejays scored three goals in two minutes to take a 7-1 lead halfway through the second quarter. MSOE scored two unassisted goals and another from Whipps to trail the Bluejays 8-4 at the end of the first half. In the first minute of the third quarter Stepanek finished a feed from Luke to extend the Bluejays' lead. MSOE responded with two goals midway through the quarter to cut Elmhurst's lead down to three goals (9-6). The Bluejays answered with a transition goal from Ryan Moran to lead 10-6 headed into the fourth quarter. The Raiders scored a man-up goal in the beginning of the fourth quarter but the Bluejays answered with two goals midway through the quarter to take their largest lead of the night at five goals. For the remaining seven minutes of the game, the Bluejays held off the Raiders and a 12-7 win to kick off their 2021 season. Elmhurst was led by Ben Luke's six points on five goals and one assist. Yandall also recorded six points, dishing out four assists and scoring two goals of his own. Freshman, Ethan Stepanek posted a hattrick in his Bluejay debut with three goals. Jake Delgado had an impressive day in net, recording nine saves and three ground balls. MSOE was led by Kyle Krueger's seven points on two goals and five assists. Tanner Whipps finished with a hattrick of his own. Sean Finneran totaled 13 saves while allowing 11 goals. Game Notes Elmhurst cleared at 84 percent while MSOE posted a 65-clearing percentage. The Raiders edged the Bluejays by winning 13 of the 20 faceoffs. Elmhurst totaled 45 shots to MSOE's 30 on the day. The Bluejays host Marian University on Wednesday, March 3, at 6:00 P.M.
