The Jacksonville University women's lacrosse team (3-1, 1-0 ASUN) came out of the gates firing and never looked back against Stetson (1-2, 0-1 ASUN) in its ASUN opener on Sunday afternoon, 18-6. The historic effort this time around, as they become common-place for this group, came from Sarah Elms who buried a career-high and program-record-tying eight goals. Her first three came on consecutive tries in less than a minute as the Dolphins during a 5-3 lead into an 8-3. She canned two more in the first half and the remaining three in the second, including the 18 and final goal for Jacksonville. Elms joins Jenny Kinsey as the only two Dolphins in program history to record eight goals in a single game. Kinsey did it on May 2, 2019 opposite Kennesaw State. Elms takes over the team lead with 19 goals this season. Alyssa Arnold had herself an afternoon as well. She scored four goals to go with three assists to collected seven points, more than doubling her season total to this point. Kinsey added two goals and three assists, Mackenzie Boyle snagged a hat trick and Molly Brock added a goal and an assist. Parker Day and Olivia Alvarez each handed out one assist. Jacksonville was surgical in this one, collected 44 shots and forcing the Stetson goalkeeper to make 12 saves. All three Jacksonville net-minders saw action on Sunday and made eight saves collectively. Dayna Martinetto picks up the win but Sharn Muffett made five saves in relief. Arnold got the scoring started less than 30 seconds into the game and Boyle scored back-to-back goals before Stetson go on the board for the first time at the 19:17 mark. The Hatters battled all the way back to tie the game, 3-3, with 15:49 to play in the half. Arnold came back with two more goals, Elms had her spurt then Arnold and Elms traded scores before Kinsey broke it up. Elms grabbed one more during the 9-0 run to make it 12-3 by the time the clock ticked below one minute to go in the half. Things slowed considerably in the second half but JU still managed to outscore Stetson, 6-2 in the frame to come away with the 18-6 victory. Next up for Jacksonville will be Boston U. That match is set to get underway on Monday, Mar. 9 at 1 p.m. live from D.B. Milne Field. Jacksonville's match with Stetson on Sunday was the first of nine-straight at home.
