The University of Alabama in Huntsville men's lacrosse team battled tough conditions and a tough opponent on Sunday afternoon, falling 10-5 to visiting Rollins at Charger Park. The Chargers slip to 1-4, while the Tars improve to 3-1.
Turning Point
-The visitors outscored UAH 4-0 in the third quarter, turning a two-goal halftime lead into a six-goal advantage that would prove to be too much for the Chargers to overcome.
Inside the Box Score
-The Chargers were led on the day by Luke LeVette who scored twice while firing off seven shots, picking up two ground balls, and causing one turnover.
-UAH's other goal scorers included Colton Nall, Preston, Deno, and Nicholas Ranta, while Joseph Stuber added an assist.
-Stuber and Zak Welsh picked up a team-best four ground balls.
-Joshua Hardin led the Chargers with two caused turnovers.
-In faceoffs, Jake Fowler went 9-for-18 for the Blue and White.
-Welsh also made 14 saves in the setback.
-The Tars established a 35-19 advantage in shots.
-UAH went 12-for-17 in clears on the day.
-Rollins tallied 41 ground balls to 26 for the Chargers.
Inside the Flow
-Rollins scored the first three goals of the contest, but Luke LeVette scored his first at the 6:20 mark of the first quarter off an assist from Stuber before Deno added a man-up goal at the 4:58 mark to pull the Chargers within one at 3-2.
-The guests tallied in the final minute of the first quarter and 1:25 into the second to go back up by three at 5-2, but Nall then tallied at the 10:38 mark to create a 5-3 score that would hold through the halftime break.
-Rollins then scored the four straight in the third to go up 9-3 heading into the fourth, and LeVette and Ranta both scored in the fourth around another Rollins goal to create the 10-5 final.
Noteworthy
-LeVette is the first Charger to reach double figures in scoring this season, moving to 11, and he also has a team-best 12 points.
-Ranta's goal is his seventh of the season.
-Stuber paces the team with three assists.
Next Time Out
-The Chargers will be off until March 16 when the team opens up Great Lakes Valley Conference play with a 12 p.m. tilt against Indianapolis at Charger Park.
