The University of Alabama in Huntsville men's lacrosse team sent its senior class off in style, defeating Shorter 18-8 in the 2019 home finale at Charger Park. UAH improves to 3-8 (1-4 GLVC), while the Hawks slip to 0-12 (0-5 GLVC). Turning Point -The Chargers scored six straight across three quarters to turn a three-goal advantage into an insurmountable nine-goal lead in the fourth quarter. Inside the Box Score -Luke LeVette matched his program record with seven goals in the game, as he fired off 20 shots of which 11 were on cage. -Joseph Stuber scored three times, and Reid Vender also logged three points with a goal and two assists. -Three Chargers had a two-point game with both Josh Campbell and Mason Russell scoring once and assisting on another, while Jake Fowler picked up a pair of assists. -UAH's other goals came from Brody Phillips, Colton Nall, Emory Weaver, Brandon Goppelt, and Daimon Olsen, while Jack Utrevis and Preston Deno both logged assists. -Fowler was an impressive 21-for-24 in faceoffs and also led UAH with 11 ground balls. -Nall was second on the team with six ground balls on the night. -Kyle Siersma earned the win in goal, making three stops, while James Arneson also made a pair of saves. Inside the Flow -Shorter got on the board less than a minute into the game, but LeVette's first goal of the night came just seven seconds after the Shorter strike, and that was followed by another LeVette goal and a Stuber goal to give UAH a 3-1 lead by the 9:01 mark of the opening quarter. -A Hawk goal made it 3-2, but the Chargers would reel off three more in the first and another just five seconds into the second to go ahead 7-2. -The two teams then traded pairs of goals, with Shorter scoring twice, followed by two for UAH, and another pair for Shorter, but a man-up goal for Stuber with 1:33 left in the period gave the Chargers a 10-6 lead at the half. -Nall started the scoring for the Chargers in the third, and the hosts would keep Shorter off the board in the period in building up a 13-6 advantage going into the fourth as LeVette scored his final goal of the night with just five seconds left in the third quarter. -UAH then outscored the Hawks 5-2 in the fourth to create the 18-8 final. Noteworthy -LeVette now has 94 goals in his career as he moves his team-high goal total to 28 following his seventh multi-score game of the season. -LeVette also scored seven times against Shorter on April 22, 2017, in his freshman campaign. -Fowler has now established a program record with 66 ground balls on the year, surpassing the total of 64 set by Nik Kubik a year ago. -Phillips now has 13 goals on the year which ranks second on the team. -UAH honored its four seniors – Ryan McRae, Nall, John Forrest Ruble, and Preston Snyder – in a ceremony prior to the game. Next Time Out -UAH will close out the regular season next Saturday when the team travels to Young Harris for a 3 p.m. CT contest on April 20.
