The Lincoln Memorial men's lacrosse team led by two with less than 10 minutes to play, but the Coker Cobras closed on a 5-0 run to hand the Railsplitters their fifth consecutive loss, 10-7, at the Rocky Top Sports World on Friday afternoon. After never leading in the first half and trailing 5-4 at the break, Lincoln Memorial (2-5, 0-1 SAC) scored three goals in the third quarter and shut out the Cobras (4-3, 2-0 SAC) over that same span to carry a 7-5 lead into the fourth quarter. The Railsplitters remained in front by that score through the first five minutes of the fourth, but Ethan Irizarry tallied three times to power a 5-0 finish for Coker, which remained unbeaten in conference play. Reggie Golfin led Lincoln Memorial with two goals and 11 shot attempts, while five other players contributed a single goal. Robert Tucker and Ian Cook were the only other Railsplitters with multiple points, as Tucker tallied a goal and an assist while Cook notched three of the team's four assists. A stout effort in goal from Chris Hagy kept the Railsplitters in check, as the Coker netminder made 16 saves, including five in the fourth quarter, to pick up the win. Lincoln Memorial finished the match with a 39-36 edge in shot attempts and a 23-21 shots on goal advantage. Irizarry powered the Cobras with four goals and two assists, while Joe Venazio had three goals. Matt Murphy and Justin Hopkins added a goal and an assist. Venzaio scored two goals in a 28-second window to prop the Cobras to a 3-1 lead late in the first quarter before Kyle Arcuri scored with 1:21 left in the first to cut the deficit to 3-2 at the end of one. Golfin tallied his first goal of the match 32 seconds into the second quarter to tie it up at 3-3. Venazio notched his third goal of the contest to put Coker back in front at the 8:17 mark, but Tucker scored less than a minute later to even things back up. The Cobras would score the final goal of the half, though, as Murphy broke through with 5:10 left to make it a 5-4 match. Tucker had a look to tie it up in the Railsplitters' final possession of the half, but his shot was saved by Hagy. The Railsplitters completely dominated the third quarter, outshooting the Cobras by a 15-3 margin to storm ahead 7-5. Golfin started the scoring and tied the match at 11:38, while Chad Walters put Lincoln Memorial in the lead with a goal at the 8:18 mark. Chris Tucker tacked on another with just over two minutes left in the third to send the match to the fourth with the Railsplitters leading 7-5. Coker made the final push in the fourth, taking the lead for good with three goals in less than 90 seconds. Irizarry's second goal during that stretch tied the match with 8:24 to go, while Jonah Robertson hammered home the game-winner just 11 seconds later. Irizarry and Hopkins added insurance goals in the final three minutes to ice the come-from-behind win for the Cobras. The Railsplitters went 14-for-21 on face-offs. Hunter Clark led that effort by winning 12 face-offs while also leading the team with five ground balls. Trenton Cameron made 11 saves between the pipes for Lincoln Memorial. Lincoln Memorial will be back in action on Saturday, March 16 when they visit the Queens Royals for a SAC matchup set for a 4 p.m. start.
