Victor, N.Y. – The seventh-ranked Le Moyne College men's lacrosse team scored the first eight goals of the game en route to a 17-7 win over Roberts Wesleyan College on Wednesday afternoon at the Pinnacle Athletic Complex. The victory is the 300th in the career of 22nd-year head coach Dan Sheehan. He is the 18th men's lacrosse coach all-time to record 300 victories. Following seven minutes of scoreless action to start the game, Le Moyne scored four goals over five and one-half minutes. The Dolphins took advantage of a Roberts Wesleyan penalty to get on the scoreboard at the 7:53 mark as senior attackman Ryan Cosgrove (Churchville, N.Y./Churchville-Chili) netted an extra-man goal. Just under 90 seconds later, junior midfielder Ross Filtch (Marcellus, N.Y./Marcellus/Siena) tallied his second goal of the season off a pass from senior midfielder Dan Entenmann (Auburn, N.Y./Auburn). Sophomore midfielder Ben McCreary (Cicero, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy) tallied his first goal of the season with 3:03 left for a 3-0 lead. Senior attackman Matt Hutchings (Marcellus, N.Y./Marcellus) closed out the scoring in the quarter at the 2:31 with his fifth goal of the campaign off a pass from freshman attackman Kevin Sheehan (Camillus, N.Y./West Genesee). Le Moyne scored the first four goals of the second quarter, including three goals in the initial 2:18. Hutchings started the quarter's scoring 42 seconds into the period. Just over one minute later, Cosgrove tallied his third goal of the season. The Dolphins capped the spurt at the 12:42 mark as Hutchings registered his seventh goal of the year. Filtch put the Dolphins in front 8-0 with 9:40 remaining after collecting a feed from Hutchings. The Redhawks scored twice in eight seconds to get within 8-2. Hunter Lemieux got Roberts Wesleyan on the scoreboard with his eighth goal of the year with 3:44 to go off a feed from Michael Pierog. Sam Schubach won the ensuing faceoff and raced in to score his first goal of the season. Le Moyne extended its lead to 13-2 with the first five goals of the third quarter. Junior attackman Riley Larson (Fairfield, Conn./Ludlowe) opened the scoring in the quarter with his fifth goal of the year after taking a pass from Hutchings. Just 20 seconds later, graduate student short-stick defensive midfielder Peter Sharp (Airmont, N.Y./Suffern/Pace) registered his first goal as a Dolphin off a transition pass from sophomore midfielder Kaiden Tubbert (Auburn, N.Y./Auburn/Bridgton Academy) with 12:33 to go in the quarter. Filtch found the back of the net for the third time in the game at the 10:02 mark after taking a feed from Sheehan. Less than one minute later, senior midfielder Josh Slowinski (Williamsville, N.Y./Clarence) recorded his fourth goal of the year off a pass from Entenmann. Sheehan capped the 5-0 run with his second career goal off a pass from Hutchings. Roberts Wesleyan followed with the next two goals. Lemieux scored with 6:02 remaining in the third off a pass from Matt Gademske. Mike Richardson then scored his fifth goal of the campaign with 4:48 to go. Sheehan ended the scoring in the quarter with 36 seconds left after receiving a feed from freshman attackman John Howes (Camillus, N.Y./West Genesee). The Dolphins started the scoring in the fourth quarter just 45 seconds into the period as junior midfielder Hans Zimmer (Ballston Spa, N.Y./Ballston Spa) tallied his second goal of the season. Lemieux answered back 55 seconds later with his 10th goal of the season. The Dolphins pushed their lead to 17-5 with the game's next two goals. Howes recorded his second tally of the season with 12:32 left off a pass from sophomore attackman Evan Kelly (Honeoye Falls, N.Y./Aquinas Institute). Tubbert scored in transition at the 8:02 mark for his first goal of the season. Roberts Wesleyan scored the last two goals of the game. In an extra-man situation, Pierog tallied his eighth goal of the season with 4:46 to go in the contest. Just 27 seconds later, Gademske posted his fifth goal of the campaign off a feed from Gavin Marsh. Junior goalkeeper Riley Smith (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker/Onondaga C.C.) made eight saves (against two goals) over 37:36 between the pipes to earn his second straight win. Pat Hynes recorded 16 saves in 46:40 in his first loss of the season.
