The Basics Score: Roanoke 23 | Shenandoah 5 Records: Maroons 5-2 / 3-1 ODAC | Hornets 3-3 / 1-3 ODAC Location: Salem, Va. The Lead: The Roanoke College men's lacrosse team was in action on Wednesday afternoon when they played host to Shenandoah in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference matchup. Roanoke would score six unanswered first period goals to build a big lead on their way to a 23-5 conference victory. How it Happened: Luca Docking took a feed from Luke Kammerman to get the scoring started for the Maroons just under three minutes into the game. Kammerman would add a goal of his own ahead of Jay Frye, Wyatt Whitlow, and Owen Curry to make it 5-0. Docking would score his second and the Maroons had a 6-0 lead after one quarter of play. One minute into the second frame, George Gilbert scored from Kammerman then two minutes later added a second goal, this time from Docking. Kammerman would net back-to-back scores after the first Hornet goal to make it 10-1. Anthony Beccaria and Frye scored a pair of unassisted goals. Late in the quarter, RC was a man down but that didn't stop Ethan Caldwell from adding to the lead. Docking scored again with just 24 seconds on the clock to make it 14-3 at the half. Beccaria and two goals by Whitlow allowed Roanoke to take a 17-5 edge into the final period. Just like the first quarter, Roanoke would score six unanswered goals in the final stanza for the 23-5 win. Greg Fisher took it himself to get the run started. Quinn Evans from Carson Peck added to the lead. Jamison Young scored twice during the quarter with Brennan Bosque scoring off a pass from Griffin Buck. A Frye unassisted goal would wrap up the comfortable win. Austin Gambino dominated by winning 22 of the 25 face offs he contested while picking up 11 ground balls. Sam Balch caused four turnovers. Matt Federau earned his fifth win of the season, giving up four goals and registering one save. Taylor Lewis took over in the second half and gave up just one goal with three stops before giving way to Cole Hiller, one save, and Dan Cain. Up Next: Roanoke travels to Lynchburg on Saturday for their annual matchup with the Hornets. The game is scheduled to start at 7:00pm.
