GRANVILLE, Ohio (April 9, 2022) – The Denison University men's lacrosse team defeated the College of Wooster 16-5 behind three goals apiece from Camden Bowdy, Luke Fisher, Will Kenney and Nate Kay to improve to 3-0 in the North Coast Athletic Conference and 5-0 at home so far during their 2022 season. In what began as a matchup between two of the four 2-0 teams in the NCAC, Denison wasted little time building its lead as a pair of goals less than a minute apart by Clyde Bresnahan and Kenney started a 7-0 first quarter for the Big Red. Fisher would add back-to-back goals assisted by Bowdy before assisting on the second goal of the opening quarter by Kenney, and then Bowdy scored his first goal and third point of the game to make it 6-0 with just under five minutes left in the period. Denison's final goal of the opening 15 minutes was a score by Kay to make it 7-0 with under a minute left. Bowdy would go on to both score and assist on Denison's two goals in the second quarter as the Big Red took a 9-2 lead into the break, and then the third quarter featured another goal by Kenney and another assist by Bowdy to make it 11-3. mens-lacrosse-vs.-woosterAfter neither team scored for the final 10 minutes of the third quarter, Denison scored the first three goals of the fourth, including the second and third goals of the game by Kay and the second by Bresnahan to make it a 5-0 Big Red run overall and give the home team a double-digit lead up 14-3. Fisher would then have a hand in each of Denison's final two goals, assisting on the third goal by Bowdy before scoring his own third goal to make it 14-6 with just under five minutes to play. Denison outshot Wooster 62-20 overall and 38-18 on shots on goal, had a 44-15 advantage on groundballs, was a perfect 19-for-19 on clears, and held a 21-2 advantage on faceoffs. Bowdy led the Big Red with seven total points (3 goals, 4 assists) while Fisher finished with six points (3 goals, 3 assists) and led the team with six groundballs. Davis Cronin added five groundballs and was a perfect 11-for-11 on faceoffs while Colin MacLean was 8-for-9 and Sam Wadsworth was 2-for-3. Defensively, both Joey Rochte and Will Filiault caused two turnovers while Archer Darrach (5-1) finished with 13 saves. In addition to improving to 7-4 overall and 3-0 in the NCAC, the win also represented Denison's 13th straight against Wooster (4-6 overall, 2-1 NCAC) since the 2011 season. Next week will feature two road games for the Big Red as they play at Oberlin College at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, April 12, before taking on Ohio Wesleyan University at 7 p.m. on Friday, April 15.
