The 10th-ranked Queens University of Charlotte men's lacrosse team overcame a 9-4 first-quarter deficit this afternoon to defeat Mars Hill University, 24-17, in South Atlantic Conference play. The win is the seventh in a row for Queens and improves their league record to 5-0 and their season record to 10-1. The Lions fall to 3-9 on the year and 0-6 in the SAC with the loss. Trailing 9-4 at the end of the first quarter, Queens would take over control of the game in the second where a 5-0 run in the final five minutes of the half capped by a goal from Griffin Stechmiller at 2:15 gave the Royals their first lead of the day, 11-10. The two teams then traded goals just before the break to give the game a 12-11 score in Queens' favor. In the third, Queens opened with a pair of goals increasing the gap to three, 14-11. They would go on to lead by as much as four twice in the quarter before a late goal scored by the Lions cut the margin back to three, 18-15. Queens then closed the game with five unanswered goals in the fourth to secure the seven-point victory. The Royals outshot Mars Hill 51-37, putting 35 shots on goal. Queens also won the battle for ground balls, 17-13, and totaled 28 face-off wins. Quinn Tallant and Kealan Pilon each recorded five points in the win on three goals and two assists while Reed Murphy had five points on two goals and three assists. Stechmiller and Mackenzie Tallant also recorded hat tricks. Drew Flack totaled four points on one goal and three assists while Laszlo Henning and Adam Barry each had two goals and one assist for three points apiece. Additionally, Anthony Valenza recorded today's win in goal after totaling five saves in 47:47. The Lions were led by Jake Trafton who had seven points on three goals and four assists. Zac Carrigan totaled five goals. Spencer Andrews chipped in with a hat trick and two assists. Queens will be back in action at Newberry on April 10. The game is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
