Scottie Rose Growney scored four goals and Taylor Moreno made 11 saves to lead top-ranked North Carolina to an 11-5 win over Florida on Friday afternoon at Dorrance Field. Growney led the way, scoring four goals against Florida for the second consecutive season. Tayler Warehime and Ally Mastroianni each scored twice, while Jamie Ortega and Caitlyn Wurzburger both had a goal and an assist for UNC. Kerrigan Miller also scored for the Tar Heels. Grace Haus led Florida (1-1) with three goals and an assist. The Tar Heel defense, led by Moreno and senior All-America Emma Trenchard, held the Gators to just two second-half goals. UNC led, 4-3, at halftime. Carolina out-shot the Gators, 19-12, in the opening 30 minutes but Florida goalie Sarah Reznick (1-1) played well, making 10 first-half saves. "Our defense was great today again," UNC head coach Jenny Levy said after the game. "We gave up two really easy goals in the first half, but we were able to make adjustments. Florida is a good, well-coached team that likes to score a lot of goals, so holding them to five is great. Offensively, it was a wet field, it's February and we're still working through a lot of kinks. But I was really happy with how we chipped away at what we needed to do and played a much better second half than we did in the first half." Moreno (2-0) went the distance in goal for the Tar Heels, recording double-digit saves for the second game in a row. She earned ACC Defensive Player of the Week accolades this week after making 10 saves against sixth-ranked Stony Brook last Sunday. For the game, UNC out-shot Florida, 32-26. Both teams controlled nine draws, and Carolina held an 18-16 edge in ground balls. The Tar Heels will return to action on Sunday at 4 p.m. against High Point at Dorrance Field.
