(Feb. 22, 2020) - Sam St. Croix scored a career-high seven goals and Alvernia University (1-1) beat Centenary University (0-1) by a 12-5 final Saturday afternoon in non-conference men's lacrosse action at Alvernia. The lead went back and forth in the first two quarters with Alvernia taking a 4-3 lead into halftime after St. Croix and Zach Bowman scored back-to-back goals with five minutes left in the half. Centenary scored the first goal of the third quarter to tie the score at 4-4, but Alvernia scored the next eight goals--including six from St. Croix--to pull ahead. St. Croix from the 4-4 tie with a goal assisted by Preston Greener, scored again assisted by Thomas Fitzgerald, then scored assisted by Jackson Fonseca on a man-advantage for a 7-4 lead with 3:13 left in the third. Bowman hit the post on a shot with 22 seconds left in the third period and Centenary picked up the rebound. Louis Ferrera picked off a pass near midfield on the clear attempt, stormed in a buried his first goal of the year for an 8-4 lead. Bowman scored man-up in the fourth and St. Croix added another streak of three straight before Centenary scored in the final seconds for the 12-5 final.
