The Queens University of Charlotte men's lacrosse team upset No. 13 Mount Olive at home this afternoon, 10-8, to move to 3-0 on the year. The Trojans now sit 2-1 after being handed their first loss of the season. Trailing, 8-7, with 9:57 to play, Queens scored three goals in a row to grab today's victory over the Trojans. Quinn Tallant led the Royals' attack with four goals and one assist for five points on the day. Kealan Pilon added six points on one goal and five assists. Reed Murphy added two goals. Drew Flack won 17-of-21 faceoffs and led with 13 ground balls. In goal, Kyle Hornik picked up the win after totaling nine saves in 60 minutes of play. After falling behind 2-0 in the opening quarter, Pilon scored the Royals' first goal of the day at 6:45 to make the score 2-1 heading into the second quarter. Tallant then knotted the game at 2-2 with a game-tying goal at 14:06 in the second. However, a pair of Mount Olive goals followed to move them in front 4-2 with 4:56 on the clock. A goal from Swick with 1:07 on the clock closed the gap to one, 4-3, heading into the halftime break. The Royals outscored the Trojans, 4-2, in the third quarter grabbing their first lead of the day on a goal from Tallant in the final second of the period. Two goals at the start of the fourth from Mount Olive returned control of the lead to the visitors until Tyler Ewen equalized the game at 8-8 with a 7:14 on the clock. Murphy followed with the game-winner on a feed from Pilon at 5:54, and Tallant netted the insurance goal scoring on an empty net with 33 seconds left in regulation. Queens outshot Mount Olive 39-33, putting 22 shots on goal compared to the Trojans' 17 shots on goal. The Royals also won the ground ball battle, 40-22. The Trojans were led by Blake Tallon, Connor Watson, and Thatcher Clark who each scored two goals. Watson also recorded a pair of assists. Andrew Avarello took the loss in goal after recording 12 saves. Queens is on the road at No. 3 Limestone for their next game on Saturday, March 2. The Royals upset a seventh-ranked Saints team last season, 15-14. Play is scheduled to begin at noon.
