The Heidelberg University men's lacrosse team kicked off its fourth season with a bang, upending visiting Anderson University, 23-3. With the win, Heidelberg moves to 1-0 on the year, while Anderson slips to 0-2. HU was paced in the scoring column by a seven-point performance from Alex Bruder (4G, 3 A). Liam Weaver added six points on three goals and three assists, and Hunter Edwards was third on the team with four goals and an assist. Jaydon Septer led the team with 13 ground balls and was successful on 16-of-17 faceoff attempts. Bruder added eight ground balls to help his cause. Defensively, Trent Clarke, Marcus Marasigan, and Ryan Sinnema all had four caused turnovers. Splitting time in goal, Quincy Grevious and Connor Reese combined for nine saves. Grevious, who got the start, was credited with his first career win. The Student Princes got out to a commanding 8-0 lead after the first quarter behind a collective team effort. Alex Bruder was credited with the team's first goal of the season on an unassisted tally, just 4:03 into the game. In addition to Bruder, five other Student Princes found the scoresheet in the first, including a hat trick from Liam Weaver in just 3:34 of play. Heidelberg kept up the pressure scoring five more goal in the second quarter. Midway through the quarter, freshman Jacob Brickman scored his first collegiate goal on a nice left-handed shot. Also in the second, Patrick McCarthy completed his first-half hat trick, adding two goals in addition to his one from the first quarter. Anderson did get on the board with 1:24 left in the first half on an unassisted goal from Tristan Wilbrandt. In the second half, the Student Princes offense kept up the offense, scoring 10 more goals across the third and fourth quarter. Freshmen AJ Foltz (2), Cole Werner, and Sean Kreda all tallied their first collegiate goals. Anderson found two fourth quarter goals from Wilbrandt and Michael Ertel. The Ravens had just 31 ground balls compared to The Berg's 60. Eric Fisher led the team with eight pickups. Colt Comiskey had a team-high three caused turnovers. Fisher, who started in goal, was saddled with the loss. Heidelberg returns to action on Wednesday as they host Calvin. The game is scheduled for a 7 p.m. start.
