The Queens University of Charlotte men's lacrosse team held their home opener this afternoon defeating North Greenville University, 12-8, to move to 2-0 on the season. The Crusaders drop to 0-3 with the loss. Kealan Pilon led the Royals' offense recording a hat trick, while Quinn Tallant and Adam Barry each recorded two goals. Laszlo Henning added two points on one goal and one assist, and Justin Swick tallied two assists. Defensively, Jake Coleman totaled two caused turnovers. Additionally, Kyle Hornik grabbed the win in goal after recording 16 saves, four ground balls, and one caused turnover. Queens opened today's game scoring five unanswered goals, holding the Crusaders scoreless until the second quarter when they found the back of the net at 9:26. By halftime, the Royals had built a seven-point lead, 9-2. The would Crusaders find some momentum at the start of the third scoring back-to-back goals to cut the Royals' lead to five, 9-4, but three straight points from Queens gave the home team a 12-4 advantage heading into the final 15 minutes of action. Penalties given to the Royals in the fourth quarter then allowed the North Greenville to pull within four before the final horn sounded. Alex Proly and Thomas Cecere scored two goals each to lead the Crusaders. Braeden Dixon recorded eight saves in goal. The Royals will be back at home for their next game on Saturday, February 23 welcoming No. 15 Mount Olive to Dickson Field. Queens edged an 11th-ranked Mount Olive team during the 2018 season, 6-5. The year before that, the Royals also pulled out a one-point victory over the Trojans. Play is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m.
