The Stevenson men's lacrosse team erased a three-goal deficit in the third quarter, scoring four unanswered, including the game-winning goal in overtime by senior Jacob Tatum as the 11th-ranked Mustangs downed Eastern 10-9 in overtime Saturday evening at Mustang Stadium. On the eighth shot of the game for the Mustangs (4-0, 2-0 MAC Commonwealth), junior Shane Ford found the back of the net, scoring unassisted. After the Eagles (5-2, 3-2 MAC Commonwealth) won the ensuing face-off, the hosts forced a turnover and senior Lewis Anania ran all the way in from midfield, scoring just 49 seconds later. The visitors got on the board at the 8:11 mark before junior Connor Nelson scored on a wrap-around on the very next possession. Eastern earned the first man-up advantage of the game as Connor Killion converted 19 seconds into the one-minute advantage to get the Eagles within one. Senior John Harrington got on the board with an unassisted goal with the Eagles answering right back, making it a one-goal game with 2:50 remaining. Eastern goaltender Ethan Meyers made his sixth save of the quarter on a one-timer in front by Tatum with 37 seconds left. Down the other end, senior Marc Poust made a save in the closing seconds to preserve the hosts lead at the break. The Fanelli brothers connected for Eastern as Nicholas fed Kyle to tie the game before the Eagles took their first lead of the game as Killion found the back of the net. On the Mustangs first man-up opportunity, Tatum fed Ford in front for the score and to level the game at 5-5 with 6:31 remaining. With 48 seconds remaining in the quarter, Kyle Mulrane scored unassisted to give the Eagles a 6-5 lead. Eastern scored twice just 25 seconds apart as Killion found the back of the net twice, including his second with Poust out of the crease during a 10-man ride, pushing its lead to three. The Mustangs had 11 turnovers in the quarter while the Eagles had nine. Stevenson recorded just six shots in the quarter, with only one shot on net. Ford broke a 22:43 scoreless drought for the Mustangs as he ran in and scored unassisted to get the hosts back within two. Stevenson had a two-man advantage for 30 seconds but turned it over with six seconds left after recording just one shot wide right of the net. With 7:35 remaining, the Eagles pushed their lead back to three goals as Connor Bachman scored to the far post on a low-angle shot. Junior Ryan Coleman found the back of the net for the first time in the contest, scoring unassisted. With 2:50 remaining in regulation, Anania was left opened and ripped a shot past Myers to cut the Eagles lead to just one. Junior Cam Leydig tied the game with 45 seconds remaining on an assist from Nelson. The Mustangs were whistled for a penalty with 35 seconds left but the Eagles did not get off a shot before the buzzer. Eastern was called for a face-off violation, giving the Mustangs a man-up opportunity for 30 seconds. After a high shot by Coleman, Nelson from behind the net fed Tatum in front for the seniors first goal of the game and the game-winner just 33 seconds into overtime. Stevenson outshot Eastern, 41-28, including 15-3 in the fourth and overtime periods. The Mustangs were shutout in the third quarter, marking the first time since 2019 when the team was shutout at Tufts in the fourth quarter of the NCAA Tournament.
