Fighting from a six-goal deficit after the first quarter, the Clarkson University Men's Lacrosse team made things interesting in the second half against St. John Fisher but nevertheless fell to the Cardinals 18-11 on Sunday afternoon at Hantz Field. The two teams will be back in action on Wednesday afternoon when Clarkson returns the favor by traveling to Rochester for a second tilt. St. John Fisher raced out of the gate with four goals in the first nine minutes with Ian Evans converting twice in the early going. The Cardinals possessed the ball for much of the first quarter as Joe Post was regularly winning face offs and keeping the Knights on their heels defensively. Clarkson eventually got things going, but the Green and Gold were down by eight scores in the second period when Conor Bartlett converted at the 9:12 mark. Billy Bergan followed just a minute later, but that was the limit to Clarkson's scoring in the first half. The second half was mostly even as the Knights scored three straight goals in the third to cut the margin back to eight (13-5), but St. John Fisher tallied in the waning seconds of the quarter and then added two quick goals from Jacob Risavi at the start of the fourth to reclaim a double-digit advantage. Clarkson found the back of the net regularly down the stretch, but the deficit was too much to overcome. Junior Billy Bergan scored four points, recording three goals and assisting on another, while graduate student Conor Bartlett found the back of the net three times. Sophomore Sebastian Geiger also chipped in two scores and Connor Borchardt had three groundballs and caused four turnovers. For St. John Fisher, Ian Evans tallied eight points on six goals and two assists and Tucker O'Donnell had seven points with a pair of goals and five assists. Joe Post went 19-for-25 on face offs and scooped up nine groundballs. The Cardinals won 24 of the 33 face offs in the game, helping them win the battle of groundballs, 41-27.
