SPRINGFIELD, Mass.--Senior Joe Nutting scored twice as the Keene State College men's lacrosse team fell by a final score of 12-5 to the host Golden Bears of Western New England University on Wednesday night at Golden Bear Stadium. Records Keene State: 0-1 Western New England: 2-0 How it Happened After the Owls fell behind early to a goal by WNE's Conor Tracy, the Owls equalized through sophomore midfielder Colby Quiet. The Owls' faceoff man juked past one defender to make space before firing a rocket past Carter Randall. Three consecutive goals from Dylan Hanley, Mike Bannon, and Brian Madden gave the Golden Bears a 3-1 lead, before KSC's Andrew Miller netted a man-up goal to trim the lead to 4-2. Miller took possession of the ball on a fast break and beat Randall in a 1-v-1 opportunity. Keene State would not score again for the rest of the half, while the Golden Bears netted three times in the second quarter to take a 7-2 lead into the halftime break. Tracy scored again, early in the third quarter before Nutting grabbed his first of the year. After Nutting and Matt Greer traded goals to make it a 9-4 game, Western New England put the game out of reach with three goals in less than three minutes in the fourth quarter, the last of which coming off the stick of Mike Bannon with 6:14 remaining. Rex Maccarini completed the scoring with his first collegiate goal with 1:01 remaining. Inside the X Senior goalkeeper Chase Chamberlain made 15 stops in 60 minutes of action for the Owls. His 191 saves are eighth all-time in school history, and needs 15 more saves to pass Alex Sharp in seventh place. Keene State was 3-for-5 with the extra-man opportunity, and 19-for-21 on clearing attempts. The Owls are now 3-7 all-time against Western New England, and have not defeated the Golden Bears since a 16-13 win on February 21, 2017. Up Next Keene State travels to Nichols College in Dudley, Mass., on February 26 at 1 p.m. The Owls are 3-0 all-time against the Bison, and this will be the first meeting between the teams not to take place in Davenport, Fla. Western New England will also be on the road this Saturday, taking on the United States Coast Guard Academy.
