ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Senior attackman Kyle Jackson tied his season high of four goals, and senior/junior Gerald Logan made 15 saves as the University of Michigan men's lacrosse team earned a wire-to-wire victory over the Colgate University Red Raiders, 9-8, on Sunday (Feb. 14) inside Oosterbaan Field House. The Red Raiders, receiving votes in the latest USILA Poll, are the highest-ranked team U-M has ever defeated in its five seasons as a varsity program. Michigan got off to a 4-1 lead after one quarter on two goals from Jackson at 13:36 and 6:00 mark, and a goal each from juniors Andrew Roswell and Mikie Schlosser. Colgate (0-1) kept the score within reach until the half, netting three goals in less than two minutes on goals from three different Red Raiders as Michigan led 7-4 going into the half Colgate came out firing in the second half on constant attack and outscored the Wolverines 2-1 in the third quarter. Logan stepped up in the third quarter for the Wolverines and made six saves, while many of them helped to kill Colgate momentum. With the Wolverines hanging on to a one-goal lead, Schlosser made a full field pass to Jackson on the crease, and Jackson netted a goal with 0.4 seconds remaining in the third quarter as U-M took an 8-6 lead going into the final stanza. In the fourth quarter, Logan continued his dominant play in the crease by stopping another four shots. However, Colgate inched closer, netting two more markers with less than six minutes to play. A score from Colgate's Cam Williams on a man-up goal brought the score to 9-8 with 4:32 left, but U-M held for the victory. U-M junior faceoff man Brad Lott came up huge on the afternoon, winning 12-of-17 chances at the dot. Additionally, senior Chase Brown had an outstanding all-around contest defensively with five ground balls and three caused turnovers while also netting the second goal of his U-M career.
