The Oberlin College men's lacrosse team outscored Hiram College 13-4 in the second half to earn a 16-8 victory on Tuesday night. Rookie Michael Muldoon led the Yeomen offense, which featured goals from 10 different players, as he scored four goals in the victory. Sophomore Tom Decker earned his spot on the score sheet twice while dishing out four assists for a six-point night. After Matthew Barry scored the first tally of the game, the Terriers registered the next three goals to take an early 3-1 advantage. The Yeomen netted two before the first period horn sounded to even the score as Matthew Barry scored off a Decker feed, and Jake Parentis beat the Hiram goalie. Unfortunately, the Terriers scored the only goal of second period when Hunter Jenkins and Jonah Austin connected to give Hiram a 4-3 lead at halftime. The Yeomen came out of the intermission fired up as they outscored the Terriers 7-1 in the third to take a five goal lead into the final 15 minutes of play. Muldoon and Decker put Oberlin back in front in the first minute of the half, with four other Yeomen registering goals in the period. Oberlin netted four of the next five goals in the fourth, highlighted by two off the stick of Muldoon. The surge left no doubt in the eventual outcome. Muldoon netted his fourth and Thomas Berle Carman registering his 15th of his sophomore campaign to cap the scoring for Oberlin. Calvin Filson played 57 minutes inside the crease for the Yeomen and recorded 10 saves in the victory. The Yeomen dominated the game statistically as they outshot the Terriers 51-30, forced 31 Hiram turnovers and picked up 42 of the 71 loose balls. Hiram won the battle at the OC though, as they won 18 of the 29 face-offs. The victory snaps Oberlin's five-game skid and moves them to 4-7 on the year and 1-3 in NCAC play. Hiram falls to 6-5 overall and 0-4 in league action. The Yeomen will look to stay in the win column on Friday when they face conference power Ohio Wesleyan University starting at 7 p.m.
