Freshman Quinn McKercher scored twice and sophomore Clifford Pollard added a goal and an assist for the Nazareth College Men's Lacrosse team but a run of six out of seven goals in the first half for visiting Ithaca College led to a 17-7 loss for the Golden Flyers Wednesday afternoon. Ithaca (2-0) scored three of the first four goals in the game with senior Jeremy Jacob scoring the first goal for Nazareth (0-4) as the Bombers took the early lead. McKercher scored his first goal of the game just 11 seconds into the second quarter to trim the lead but Ithaca responded with four consecutive goals to go up 7-2. Goals by McKercher and Pollard at the end of the first half left Nazareth trailing 7-4 at the halftime intermission. Ithaca opened the second half with three goals before sophomore Lucas Cobery scored to stop the run. The Bombers scored four times in the first three minutes of the final quarter to forge ahead 14-5 and added to its lead with two more goals later in the quarter. Sophomore Max Popolizio and junior Jon Roth notched goals within a three minute span for Nazareth to cut the lead to 16-7 but Ithaca added a final goal for the 17-7 victory. Senior Carter Conrad led the Golden Flyers with five ground balls and junior Cole Moore had three caused turnovers. Nazareth will open Empire 8 play at Noon Saturday with a home game against Keuka.
