The Kenyon College Lords lacrosse team trailed early in Saturday's game on the Field at Benson Bowl, but a string of three-straight man-up goals in the third quarter lifted the home squad to a 6-4 non-conference victory over the Centre College Colonels. The win upgraded Kenyon's record to 5-0, marking the first time since the 2007 campaign that the Lords won each of the first five games on their schedule. The Lords unleashed 20 shots in the first half of play, but only had one goal to show for it. Centre goalkeeper Connor Jongewaard made seven saves in that time and allowed the Colonels to build a slim lead with goals from Nic Malubay and John Morrison. Kenyon's lone first-half goal came from Will Robbins and it broke the goal line just 37 seconds before the half. At the 11:38 mark of the third quarter, Anthony DiMichele gave the Colonels a 3-1 lead. On the ensuing faceoff, however, Centre was called for a slashing penalty. The Lords capitalized on the extra-man situation by ringing up a Sam Humphrey score off an assist from Matt Pollack. Less than two minutes later, Centre drew another slashing penalty and Kenyon evened the score with a man-up goal from Pollack, who was set up by Robbins. The scenario played out for a third time about two minutes later. After another slashing call on Centre, Kenyon took its first lead of the game on a man-up goal from Robbins. That goal came at the 6:13 mark and was set up by Humphrey. Throughout the game, Kenyon converted 3-of-6 extra-man opportunities, while holding Centre to a 0-of-5 performance. Robbins scored one more time in the third quarter to give the Lords a 5-3 edge. He finished with a game-high four points on three goals and an assist. In the final quarter, Will Hubbs became Centre's fourth different goal scorer, narrowing the Kenyon lead to one. With 6:34 left in the game, Will Harrigan gave Kenyon a little more breathing room and put a cap on all scoring with his first goal of the game and his fifth of the season. Up next for the Lords is a trip to Salem, Virginia for Wednesday afternoon contest against the Roanoke College Maroons.
