Host Washington College took the lead for good at the end of the second quarter in registering a 10-8 win over visiting Randolph-Macon in non-conference men's lacrosse action on Saturday afternoon at Kibler Field at Roy Kirby Jr. Stadium. It was the season opener for both squads.

How It Happened
- Washington scored the game's first goal with 6:54 to go in the first quarter as Keen Griffin grabbed the rebound of a shot off the post and put in the second chance. The lead was short lived though as the Yellow Jackets answered 36 seconds later as Austin Zappia finished off a pass from Brandon Smith.
- Ewan Temple put the Shoremen ahead 2-1 with 2:02 left in the opening quarter on a Joe Maimone assist, but Jamie Smith responded exactly 60 ticks later as the two teams were tied 2-2 after one.
- Randolph-Macon took its only lead of the game 44 seconds into the second quarter on a Jack Smith goal. The lead would last until 4:28 remaining in the second when Maimone knotted the game a 3-3 on a pass from Logan Clefisch.
- Temple would put the Shoremen ahead for good as his wrap around beat the second quarter buzzer to put the hosts ahead 4-3.
- Maimone and Brady McFalls tallied goals in a 35-second span respectively to put Washington ahead 6-3 with 13:43 remaining in the third.
- However, the Yellow Jackets would answer two straight goals of their own to trim the lead to 6-5 with 9:27 to go in the third on a Jamie Smith finish. Zappia scored the first of the two goals just 18 ticks after McFalls score.
- Temple and Charlie Wittich countered with two goals in 14 seconds to put the hosts up 8-5 with 2:19 remaining in the third. The Yellow Jackets got one back with 1:23 to go on a Jamie Smith score to trim the lead to 8-6 entering the fourth.
- In the fourth, after Maimone made it 9-6 with 11:59 left, Randolph-Macon scored consecutive goals by Brandon Smith and Jack Averna respectively to cut the lead to 9-8 with 7:39 to go.
- Sean Reilly capped the scoring with 6:12 to go as he finished off a feed from Wittich.
For The Shoremen (1-0)
- Scoring: Maimone and Temple (three goals and one assist – career-bests for both), Reilly and Wittich (goal and assist)
- In Goal: Chris Del Rosario (60:00, eight goals allowed, 14 saves)
- Kyle Gittelman (personal-high seven groundballs and tied his career-best in caused turnovers with three)
- Washington was 18-for-20 in clears in the contest and was 0-for-4 on the man-up.
- Washington had 16 turnovers, while causing five Randolph-Macon turnovers and held a 25-23 advantage in ground balls.
For Randolph-Macon (0-1)
- Scoring: Jamie Smith (three goals), Brandon Smith (two assists and one goal; five ground balls), Zappia (two goals), Andrew Tiffey (two assists)
- In Goal: Oz Potter (60:00, 10 goals allowed, eight saves)
- JD Spotts won 11-of-20 face-offs and picked up five ground balls.
- The Yellow Jackets were 16-for-17 in clears, 1-for-3 in man-up situations and turned it over 10 times, while notching five caused turnovers.
- Randolph-Macon held a 41-35 advantage in shots.
Notes
- It was the first meeting between the two schools in men's lacrosse since April 26, 1930 and second all-time.
- Washington has won four of its past five season openers.
