BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Medaille College men's lacrosse team squared up with one of the top United East opponents on Senior Day. The Mavericks honored four seniors on their careers as Medaille Lacrosse Players: Chris Newton (West Seneca, NY, West Seneca West), Christian LeVere (Liverpool, NY, Liverpool), Lansana Kamara (Manhattan, NY, Iona Prep), and Matt Printup (Basom, NY, Genesee Community College). The Mavericks fought until the final whistle but were outmatched by the Seahawks, 27-0. The Mavericks blocked a few Seahawk shots before the first one found the back of the net early in the first quarter. Martin Romero (Syracuse, NY, Henninger) picked up four saves and Newton forced a turnover midway through the quarter. Thomas Shemon (Denville, NJ, Morris Knolls) also forced a turnover for the Mavericks but the St. Mary defense was tough to get past. The Seahawks found their rhythm near the end of the quarter and took an 8-0 lead. Romero picked up a few more saves throughout the game as the Seahawks kept the pressure on. Teddy Kurdziel (Depew, NY, Depew) went in goal at the start of the third quarter and picked up a few great saves. The Mavs forced a clock violation and Max Scott (Batavia, NY, Batavia) and Colton Keane (Lafayette, NY, Lafayette) both fought hard to the net to put shots on goal. Matt Kennedy (Hamburg, NY, Frontier) also took two quick shots in the third quarter but could not beat the Seahawk goaltender. Logan Filipiak (Strykersville, NY, Holland) forced a turnover in the fourth and Kurdziel continued to make saves. The Mavericks kept playing physical to the end. Keane led the Mavs with two shots on goal and two ground balls while Kennedy had four total shots and one on goal with one ground ball. Newton and Scott each picked up three ground balls and Newton forced a turnover. Romero finished the game with 11 saves while Kurdziel picked up six. The Mavericks' season has come to an end and they will look to build upon their foundation for next season.
