Hartford, Conn. - Senior attackman Ben Knaus (Ross, Calif.) had four goals and one assist to lead the Trinity College Bantams to a 21-8 victory over the visiting Curry College Colonels in men's lacrosse action this evening. Trinity wins its season opener and scored its most goals since 2007, while the Colonels drop to 1-2. The Bantams open New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) play on Saturday at Williams at 1 p.m. Curry hosts MIT on Thursday at 4 p.m. in its next game. Trinity trailed, 3-1, after the first quarter, as senior M.J. Urbano (Wakefield, Mass.) paced Curry with a goal and an assist in the opening stanza, but the Bantams rattled off four goals in a rowto open the second quarter to take a 5-3 lead at the 9:22 mark of the second frame. Four different Bantams scored during the run, including sophomore Sean Spurzel (Foxboro, Mass.) who tallied the game-tying goal from senior midfielder Max DeLameter (Irvington, N.Y.) and senior captain Teddy Myers (Washington, D.C.) who scored the go-ahead goal from junior Andrew Collins (Brookfield, Conn.). Junior midfielder Cameron Nigro (Scarborough, Maine) cut the Curry deficit to 5-4 with 6:19 left in the first half, but the Bantams scored 13 of the next 14 goals to break the game open. Trinity outshot Curry, 50-32, and finished with a 40-to-16 advantage on ground balls. Trinity sophomore attackman Drew Kozub (Hopkinton, Mass.) matched Knaus with four goals, while Collins notched two goals and two assists, DeLamater had a goal and two assists, and junior Ben Ferrucci (Essex, Conn.) registered three assists. Bantam senior Scott Morgan (East Grand Rapids, Mich.) was dominant on faceoffs with 22 wins in 24 tries and a game-high 13 ground balls. Sophomore goalie Brady Burke (Duxbury, Mass.) made 12 saves for Trinity. Urbano paced the Colonels with two goals and two assists to go with four ground balls, while junior attackman Kyle Ton (Norwich, Conn.) scored twice, and senior middie Devin Newell (Medford, Mass.) added a goal and an assist. Three Curry goalkeepers combined for 19 saves.
