Second-ranked Maryland (8-0) used a 16-goal run spanning over 30 minutes to take down Michigan (2-6) 18-12 Saturday afternoon. With the win, Maryland has clinched at least a share of the Big Ten regular season title with two games to go and is 8-0 for the first time since 2004. Kyle Long tied for a game-high three assists. Luke Wierman was steady at the faceoff X for Maryland, winning 15/25 on the day. Maryland found itself facing its biggest deficit of the 2021 season early after the Wolverines opened the day on a five-goal scoring run in the first quarter. Bubba Fairman would stop the surge, scoring the first of the day for the visitors at the 6:23 mark to ignite a 16-goal scoring run. Fairman and Bernhardt would combine for the game's next six goals, as Bernhardt's fourth of the day gave Maryland its first lead at the 7:27 mark in the second quarter. Goalie Logan McNaney settled in after an early barrage of shots from Michigan, making six of his 13 saves on the afternoon in the first half. Daniel Maltz and DeMaio would combine for three more goals for the Terps prior to the break, before UMD unloaded seven more goals to start the third quarter to take its largest lead of the day, 16-5, at the 3:54 mark. Michigan finally stopped the bleeding on a goal from Avery Myers with 1:09 to play in the third, ending a scoreless streak of 36:33 forced by the Maryland defense. The hosts would score seven of the game's final nine goals, but it was too little too late as Maryland cruised to the six-goal victory. The Terps return to action next Sunday, April 18 when Ohio State visits College Park. Faceoff at Maryland Stadium is slated for 5 p.m. and the game will appear on the Big Ten Network.
