Newburgh, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Men's Lacrosse team dropped an important Skyline Conference decision to visiting St. Joseph's-L.I. Tuesday evening by a score of 6-2. Sean Mueller (Pleasantville, N.Y.) recorded two points in the loss with Devin Kelley (Hebron, Conn.) turning aside 10 shots in goal. Tuesday's loss, which eliminated the Mount from Skyline Conference Championship contention, drops it to 8-6 overall and 2-4 in Skyline Conference play. The Golden Eagles improve to 7-5 and clinch a berth in the conference championship with a 4-2 league mark. How It Happened Mount Saint Mary was held off the board in the first half and did not tally until the 5:07 mark of the third quarter. The Golden Eagles carried a 3-0 lead into the intermission, scoring twice in the opening 15 minutes and once more in the second frame. Richie Polizzi, Jr. opened the scoring at the 11:07 mark of the first quarter with Matt Trautman tallying just under two minutes later for the early 2-0 advantage. The only tally of the second stanza came at the 9:16 mark when Jack Gilbride potted his 32nd goal of the season. Gilbride scored his second of the game at the 7:11 mark of the third frame to give the visitors a 4-0 advantage. Mount Saint Mary finally got on the board when Xavier Rodriguez (Hackettstown, N.J.) finished off his 20th goal of the season, bringing the Knights to within 4-1 with just over five minutes left in the quarter. St. Joseph's answered with the next two goals, a Tyler Kollar marker with 3:20 left in the third quarter and a Tim McCann's 22nd of the season with just over eight minutes gone by in the fourth quarter. Mount Saint Mary got the final goal of the game when Mueller scored his 10th goal of the season with 93 seconds left in the contest. For The Knights Mueller finished off a two-point night with a goal and an assist. Rodriguez became the second Knight with at least 20 goals on the season and added a groundball. Matthew Esposito (Manorville, N.Y.) led the team with four caused turnovers and added two groundballs. Joseph Angelillo (Pompton Plains, N.J.) and Brian Schneider (Hicksville, N.Y.) each recorded a caused turnover and four groundballs. Chris Maggio (Valley Stream, N.Y.) and Sean Nertney (Lynbrook, N.Y.) both caused two turnovers and collected a groundball. Robert Root (Scotch Plains, N.J.) won seven face-offs and grabbed two groundballs. Kelley reached double-figures third straight game and sixth time in 2022. He turned away 10 shots and secured four groundballs. For The Golden Eagles Gilbride closed a four-point night with two goals and two assists, adding five groundballs. McCann tallied once and assisted on three goals to go along with five groundballs. Tyler Kollar scored one goal and collected five groundballs. Ryan Wheeler caused two miscues and secured three groundballs. Michael Carere won five face-offs and picked up four groundballs. Andrew Brust stifled the Knights with 11 saves in goal, adding two groundballs and a caused turnover. Game Statistics St. Joseph's finished the game with a 31-24 advantage in shots. Groundballs went to the Golden Eagles 40-28. Mount Saint Mary held a 7-5 advantage in face-offs. Mount Saint Mary went 21-for-30 in clearing chances.
