Top-ranked North Carolina got solid performances offensively and defensively and dominated High Point, 19-5, in women's lacrosse action on Sunday afternoon at Dorrance Field. Jamie Ortega led the way with four points and two assists, while Scottie Rose Growney and Katie Hoeg had three goals and two assists apiece. The Tar Heels ran their season record to 3-0. High Point fell to 1-2. Freshman Caitlyn Wurzburger scored three goals. Tayler Warehime added two, as did Amanda Fedor. Ally Mastroianni had a goal and an assist and six draw controls and Emma Trenchard had two assists. Kerrigan Miller scored a single goal, and Caroline Wakefield, Alyssa Long and Briana Lantuh each had assists. Abby Hormes led High Point with four goals. The Tar Heels out-shot the Panthers, 37-26, and won 18 draws to HPU's eight. Taylor Moreno (3-0) started in goal and played the first 34:17 of the game, making six saves and allowing just one goal in picking up the victory. Kimber Hower came into the game in the second half and played 24:33, recording a save and allowing four goals. Maggie Skillman played the final 1:10 and made a save. Sarah Zeto started in the cage for High Point and played the first 28:22, making four saves and allowing 12 goals in taking the loss. The Tar Heels will return to action on Friday against Duke at Dorrance Field. Game Notes • Carolina rushed out to an 8-0 lead and led by as many as 11 goals in the first half at 12-1. • UNC won its 10th consecutive game (7-0 in 2020 and 3-0 in 2021). • With her six points, Ortega has 257 in her career, moving into second place in school history behind Hoeg.
