– Adam Goldner and Dylan Gergar combined to score 16 goals as the University of Pennsylvania men's lacrosse team defeated Cabrini, 23-9, on Friday evening. Goldner scored nine goals and added an assist, while Gergar had seven markers and two helpers as the Quakers (1-0) took the field for the first time in 411 days. Goldner's nine goals were a new career-high and broke a program-record for markers in a game that was set back in 1954 and matched in 1969. In net, Patrick Burkinshaw was sharp for Penn as he turned aside 12 shots to earn the HOW IT HAPPENED Penn got off to a fast start with Adam Goldner converting a feed from Jack Schultz less than a minute into the game. After Jamie Zusi won the ensuing face off, Dylan Gergar gave the Quakers a 2-0 edge just over 90 seconds into play. Cabrini would cut the deficit in half seven minutes later. The Red and Blue would answer again as Goldner's second of the day gave the guests a 3-1 lead. Cabrini would tack on one more in the first as Penn took a 3-2 lead in the second quarter. The two teams traded goals early in the second before back-to-back strikes from the Cavaliers brought Cabrini to within one at 6-5 with 5:24 left in the first half. Penn responded with five unanswered goals to close out the second quarter. Goldner got the run started and Gergar capped the spurt to give Penn an 11-5 lead after 30 minutes. The Quakers picked up in the second half where they left off, scoring the first four goals of the third to stretch their lead to 10 at 15-5. Gergar's sixth goal of the game gave Penn a 10-goal advantage and capped a nine-goal run for the Red and Blue with 9:52 left in the third.
