The Lebanon Valley men's lacrosse team used a big first half to cruise to 17-9 victory over Westminster (Pa.) on Sunday afternoon. The Dutchmen get their first win and are now 1-1 this season while Westminster falls to 0-3. LVC jumped out to an early lead in the first quarter with three straight goals to open the scoring. Michael Fisher scored the first goal of the game under two minutes into the contest followed by a pair of Trevor Holak tallies to grow the 3-0 lead. After the teams would trade goals, Courtland Hackel would find the back of the net with 30 seconds left in the period to give LVC a 5-2 lead after one quarter. Carson Frey would start the second period with a pair of goals in the first 2:42 to push the lead out to 5. After a pair of Westminster goals, LVC would end the half scoring five unanswered goals in the final 7:52 including a Holak strike with six ticks in the half to give the Dutchmen a 12-4 advantage. LVC would not allow Westminster back in the game as both teams scored twice in the third quarter and three times in the final stanza as the Dutchmen kept their eight-goal lead through the final buzzer to pick up their first win in 2020 by a 17-9 margin. Inside the Numbers Trevor Holak led the Dutchmen with six points on four goals and a pair of assists. Carson Frey and Michael Fisher each recorded hat tricks in the win. Evan Crawford and Josh Croyle each recorded a pair of goals with Crawford dishing out a team-high three assists. Josh Reinhardt, Sam Long, and Courtland Hackel all scored goals for the Dutchmen. Nick Serrano made 16 saves in net for his first collegiate win. Each team committed four penalties. Westminster outshot LVC 41-35, but LVC put 30 shots on target compared to 25 for Westminster. LVC was 22-23 on clears while Westminster was just 13-17. Both teams went scoreless on their four man-up opportunities. Westminster held a narrow 15-14 advantage at the X. Who's Next? The Dutchmen are back in action on Saturday, Feb. 29, when they travel to take on Goucher College. Game time is set for 1 p.m. in Baltimore, Md.
