MEMPHIS, Tenn. (March 7, 2022) - Rhodes is still in search of their first win of the year following a loss on Monday to the Southwestern University Pirates at Crain Field. The loss drops Rhodes to 0-6 on the year while Southwestern moves to 5-1. Each team spent the first ten minutes of the game feeling each other out with no action on the scoreboard. That changed at the six-minute mark when Tommy Dyson found the net for the Pirates. Then, right before the first horn, Nick Doxey scored as well, giving the Pirates a 2-0 lead heading into the second. Drew Downes carded the first goal of the day for Rhodes three minutes into the second quarter off a nifty pass from Christian Cisneros. Conor Casey then joined him with an unassisted strike to knot the game up at two. Southwestern would score three straight in the quarter, but Jonathon Hazelhurst kept Rhodes in it with a goal late the second to make it 5-3 at half. The second half started slowly again as the two head coaches entered a game of chess. A little past the halfway point in the third, Southwestern received another goal from Cody Foster, who would end up being the games leading scorer with five. A few moments later, Rhodes went on a furious attack. Cole Hollander punched in his first goal of the season, followed by David Hart's first only 30 seconds later. Jack Wentz was the third straight Lynx to find the net, followed by another Downes strike to tie the game at seven. Foster would get one more past the goalie to make it 8-7 at the end of three. The fourth quarter simply belonged to Southwestern. They controlled the pace of play, and their defense held extremely tough. They scored three goals in the first five minutes of the period, taking advantage of a couple of Rhodes penalties. Downes would card his third goal of the day about halfway through, but it was not enough to keep Rhodes in the game. Foster would add goals four and five of the day, with a Rhodes strike from Tyler Pellegrino sandwiched in-between to make the final of 12-9. Hudson Bearden had a monster game for the Pirates at the faceoff circle, winning 16-21 attempts. It was an incredibly clean game overall, with the two teams combining for only four penalties. Next up for the Lynx is a trip to the Sunshine State where Rhodes will faceoff against Franklin and Marshall in Orlando on March 13.
