VIRGINIA BEACH, Virginia - The Virginia Wesleyan University men's lacrosse team fell to the Maroons of Roanoke College 24-6 on Saturday afternoon at Birdsong Field in Virginia Beach, VA. INSIDE THE BOX SCORE The Marlins struck first with a goal two minutes into the action courtesy of Chris Lindemeyer. Roanoke answered a half minute later to even the score at one all. Lindemeyer scored again at the 7:30 mark off a pass from Jackson Rockhill to give VWU a 2-1 lead. The Maroons were the next to score five minutes later, 2:38, knotting the score at two all. A man-up goal by Joey Rayman off the pass from Jackson Dinger with 45 seconds left in the first quarter gave VWU a 3-2, but Roanoke scored with 27 seconds left to pull the score even at three all heading into the second quarter. Roanoke took off int he second quarter scoring nine unanswered goals taking a 12-3 lead into the halftime break. The Maroons came out of the break scoring five more goals going up 17-3. Lindemeyer scored his third of the game in a man-up power play to break up the RC scoring rally. Roanoke added three more in the final minutes of the third to lead 20-4 heading into the final 15 minutes. Roanoke added four more goals to their tally in the fourth quarter putting their mark up to 24 goals in the match. Mark Sprague added a pair of Marlin goals, both coming off passes from Joey Rayman, to give VWU six goals in the match. KEY STATS Chris Lindemeyer led the team with two goals on seven shots, four on goal. Mark Sprague added a pair of goals, with Joey Rayman scoring the sixth goal as well as recording two assists. Josh van Zuylen (W: 3-4) played all 60 minutes in goal giving up 24 goals while making 22 saves. UP NEXT The men's lacrosse team is back in action on Tuesday, March 22, when they host Susquehanna in the Marlins last non-conference game of the season. Faceoff between the Marlins and River Hawks is set for 5 PM at Birdsong Field.
