In a back-and-forth battle in the 2021 NE10 Semifinals, the fifth-seeded Pace University men's lacrosse team (6-7) was defeated at top-seeded Saint Anselm (12-0) on Wednesday, 12-10. After Alan Singleton (Pierrefonds, Quebec/Pierrefonds Comprehensive) notched his team-high fifth goal of the game to even the score up at 9-9 with 8:17 remaining in regulation, Saint Anselm was able to close out the contest on a 3-1 run. Back-to-back tallies within 40 seconds of each other sparked the rally with 5:12 left, while a third straight goal with less than a minute remaining put the finishing touches on the win. Following Singleton's season-high five tallies, it was five different Pace goal-scorers that rounded out the Setter attack. Junior Jake Veres (Robbinsville, N.J./Robbinsville) provided Pace with its first lead of the game at 4-3 with 2:48 left in the first half. That goal followed back-to-back tallies from Singleton and Anthony Caputo (Westbury, N.Y./W.T Clarke) which erased a 3-1 deficit. Veres also chipped in a pair of assists in the game. The Setters opened the third quarter on another 3-0 run as Singleton, Joseph Diggle (West Islip, N.Y./West Islip) and Blake Balcaen (Webster, N.Y./Webster Schroeder) lifted Pace to a 7-4 advantage with 7:48 left in the third. Junior Louis Ragusa (Yorktown Heights, N.Y./Yorktown) posted another strong game in net for the Blue and Gold. The NE10 All-Conference selection tallied 12 stops, which follows his career-high 19-save performance during Pace's quarterfinal win over the weekend. Saint Anselm's keeper, CJ Hart, also played well as the Setters forced him to make 11 saves. Supplementing Ragusa defensively, senior Jake Richter (West Islip, N.Y./West Islip) earned a team-best three caused turnovers while Timothy January (Peabody, Mass./Peabody Veterans Memorial) led Pace with five ground balls.
