NIAGARA UNIV., N.Y. – The Niagara Purple Eagles women's lacrosse team erased a five-goal deficit halfway through the second half to top the Siena Saints, 14-13, on Sunday afternoon to complete the two-game sweep. GAME RECAP The Purple Eagles outscored the Saints 7-1 in the final 12 minutes to pull out the comeback win. Trailing 12-7 with 14:58 remaining in the game, Shea Swartwout started the comeback with a goal at the 12:21 mark. The goal sparked a 6-0 run in seven minutes. Rachel Crane scored on consecutive trips to cut the lead to 12-10 with 8:29 left. Swartwout, then, found Lois Garlow for her second in the game with 7:14 left. Swartwout tied the contest with 6:43 on the clock and Jenna Brill gave NU its first lead since the final minute of the first half, with a goal at the five-minute mark. After Siena's Annie Brennan tied the game, Swartwout provided the winner on a free position attempt with 3:44 remaining. The Niagara defense held off Siena in the final minutes, forcing two shots wide in the final seconds. The Purple Eagles and Saints traded goals in a tightly contested first half with neither team leading by more than one goal. Siena's Nicole McNeely scored with 31 seconds left on the clock to tie the game at 5-5 before heading into halftime. Siena scored two goals early in the second half to take a 7-5 lead. After Lexi Braniecki scored to cut Siena's lead to 8-7 with 23:19 left, the Saints reeled off four straight goals in an eight-minute span for a 12-7 lead. EAGLE'S EYE ON… Shea Swartwout led the game in goals for the third straight contest. She finished with four goals on eight shots. She now has 14 goals on the season and her 4.67 goals per game lead the MAAC. Swartwout added an assist to finish with five points. Rachel Crane finished with four points after netting a hat-trick and an assist. She led the team with three caused turnovers and three ground balls while placing second in draw controls with four. Lois Garlow collected her first career hat-trick. Lexi Braniecki scored two goals, had one ground ball and one caused turnover. Tania Cunningham had a team-high five draw controls. INSIDE THE NUMBERS Niagara has won four straight home games dating back to last season. The Purple Eagles have won five of the last six meetings with Siena and five straight at home. Shea Swartwout moved into 10th on the career goals list with 84. She also surpassed the 100-point mark in her career. Niagara was a perfect 15-for-15 on clear attempts.
