On most days, scoring six goals puts you at least in the conversation for Player of the Game. The Princeton-Dartmouth game Saturday afternoon was a little different though. Phillip Robertson scored six goals against Dartmouth, leaving him fourth on the team in points for the day. That's the kind of day this one was. It was, actually, unprecedented in Tiger men's lacrosse history. Michael Sowers had 10 points and Austin Sims and Riley Thompson had seven points each - and all three reached major milestones - as Princeton defeated Dartmouth 24-13 in front of 1,084 sun-drenched fans at Sherrerd Field at Class of 1952 Stadium. In the 1,182 games in Princeton history, no game has ever seen more combined goals between the teams. Princeton's 24 goals were the second-highest total in program history, behind only the 28 Princeton scored against FDU-Madison in 1985. As for individual records, where would you like to start? With Sims, who tied his career highs with seven points and three assists and who became the 35th player in program history to reach 100 career points when he assisted on a Robertson goal a minute into the third quarter? With Thompson, who had career highs with five assists and seven points and who became the 36th player in program history to reach 100 career points when he did it 14 minutes after Sims did, Thompson on an assist to high school teammate Dawson McKenzie? That's two players who reached 100 points in the same quarter. Or with Robertson, who followed his seven-goal game against Siena with six more against Dartmouth, giving him a 13-goal week? Or with Sowers, who, well, was just ridiculous. Sowers had career highs with seven goals and 10 points, making him the eighth player in program history to have a 10-point game. He also scored or assisted on Princeton's first eight goals and tied the program's single-season record for assists with 48, all while playing three quarters. The win improved Princeton to 6-5 overall and 1-3 in the Ivy League, while Dartmouth fell to 2-9 and 0-4. Princeton is at Harvard next Saturday and home against Cornell after that as it hopes to reach the Ivy League tournament. NOTES * Sowers has 48 assists this season, tying him with Jon Hess (in 1997) and Ryan Boyle (in 2003) for the most in a season in Princeton history. Sowers also has 154 career points, moving the sophomore to 13th all-time at Princeton, and 89 career assists, moving him to eighth all-time. His 72 points this year tie him with Jesse Hubbard (from 1996) for fourth on the single-season list, trailing only Hess (74 in 1997), Mike MacDonald (78 in 2015) and himself (82 last year). * Robertson now leads Princeton with 29 goals, on 46 shots, for a team-best .630 shooting percentage that is in the top three in Division I. * Sims now has 103 career points. Thompson now has 101. * At the other end of the career spectrum, face-off man Jack-Henry Vara and attackman Andrew Bowman had their first career goals. Vara also won 16 of 25 face-offs. * Freshman Chris Brown had two goals and two assists, keeping his streak as the only player with at least one goal in every game this season (Brown, Sowers and Sims have points in every game). Brown now has 33 points (19G, 14A), which leaves him seventh all-time in freshman scoring at Princeton. * Freshman Luke Crimmins and sophomore Connor McCarthy had two more goals each. McCarthy got it all started when he scored from Sowers 4:25 in. Princeton would lead 4-3 in the first before an 11-0 run that made it 15-3 in the third.
