A Quick Look The visiting Privateers got warmed up late in the first half and stayed that way en route to a 19-10 win against host SUNY Oneonta in its home opener of 2020. The loss for the Red Dragons evens its record at 1-1 while SUNY Maritime moves to 3-1. The Inside Story Oneonta jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the opening seven minutes of today's contest. Juniors Thomas Fay (Nanuet/Nanuet) and Chris Higgins (Farmingville/Sachem East) scored the first two goals followed by freshman David Guest (Niskayuna/Niskayuna). The Privateers bounced back with a pair of goals to cut its deficit to 3-2 at the end of the first quarter. Matt DeMeo tied the game at three goals apiece nearly midway through the second quarter. Junior Thomas McRae (Northport/Northport) then scored back-to-back goals to put Oneonta back ahead at 5-3 with just over six minutes to go. Leading 6-4 with 5:17 left, the Privateers rallied to score the final three goals of the quarter including two in the last 37 seconds to grab a 7-6 lead heading to halftime. Maritime scored the opening two goals of the third quarter before McRae broke the streak with an unassisted goal at 9:16. The two squads then exchanged goals before the Privateers posted three goals in the final 1:57 including another pair in the final minute to take a13-8 lead into the fourth quarter. Maritime continued its attack in the fourth quarter outscoring Oneonta 6-2 for the final margin of victory. Freshman Jack Dinnegan (Blauvelt/Tappan Zee) and Fay tallied for the Red Dragons in the fourth. Just the Stats Maritime outshot Oneonta in the contest 48-31 while winning 21-of-33 faceoffs. Maritime picked up 39 ground balls to Oneonta's 28. The Red Dragons were successful on 17-of-19 clear attempts while the Privateers were 20-of-25. Sebastian Gomez (White Plains/White Plains) took the loss in goal for Oneonta recording eight saves before being replaced early in the fourth quarter. Kyle Bockelman made 10 saves for Maritime to pick up his third win of the season. McRae led Oneonta with three goals and one assist. DeMeo led the Privateers with six goals and one assist. What's Next Oneonta will begin a three-game, week long road trip this Saturday at Vassar College.
