SCORE: Kennesaw State 4, Jacksonville 23 RECORDS: Kennesaw State (5-9, 1-2), Jacksonville (8-1, 3-0) KEY PLAYERS: Siena Gore (2 goals, 1 assts), Emily Napierala (1 goal, 1 GB), Natalie Welch (1 goal), Errin Crowe (6 saves, 1 GB, 1 CT), Julia Weiss (5 saves), Marissa Gore (1 asst, 5 DCs, 2 GBs, 1 CT) and Rachel Price (2 CTs) THE STORYLINE The Kennesaw State women's lacrosse team closed out the regular season falling to No. 17 Jacksonville Friday afternoon at the Fifth Third Bank Stadium, 23-4. MANESS QUOTE On today's game… "We knew JU would give us a hard game. I'm proud of our girls for the fight they continue to show everyday, our seniors especially. Additionally, I thought Julia Weiss did great in goal the first half and Errin Crowe did a nice job in the second half going in and sparking the defense. We are looking forward to the conference tournament and getting a second shot at these teams. I think we do a lot of things correctly and need to string it together for a full 60." HOW IT HAPPENED KSU started the match off with a quick save from freshman goalkeeper Julia Weiss setting up the Owls to take it down field and put the first point on the board with a goal from Siena Gore at the 27:49 mark. The Dolphins quickly responded going on a 4-0 run to give them a 4-1 lead early in the half. After a defensive struggle for several minutes, an over the shoulder pass from Marissa Gore to Natalie Welch led to an Owl goal, cutting the Jacksonville lead in half 4-2 at the 20:37 mark. With less than 10 minutes in the half, KSU continued to rally as an assist from Siena Gore to Emily Napierala made it 5-3. Jacksonville controlled the final minutes adding six more goals to their lead. With 37 seconds left Siena Gore closed the half out for the Owls with a free position goal to send KSU into the locker room trailing 11-4. Jacksonville continued to command the field in the second half as six different Dolphins netted a goal in the first 10 minutes. The Owls managed to cause five turnovers on the defensive coverage throughout the second half, but the Dolphins outscored KSU 12-0 in the period to close out the game 23-4. NOTES - The Owls went 1-for-5 on free position attempts, with Siena Gore netting the lone goal. - Freshman goalie Errin Crowe recorded a career high six saves. - Jacksonville recorded 47 shots to KSU's 17. - JU out-drew KSU 10-2 in the second half. UP NEXT The Owls now prepare for the postseason as they are set to play in the ASUN Tournament Semifinals in Fifth Third Bank Stadium Thursday (May 6). Print Friendly Version
