Greenville, S.C. – Sparked by four first quarter goals, High Point downed Furman, 15-7, on Saturday afternoon inside Paladin Stadium. The win moved the Panthers to 3-7 on the year and 3-1 in SoCon play, while the loss dropped the Paladins to 3-7 and 3-1 in SoCon play and ended a three-game winning streak. Furman was led offensively by Jonah Moore with two goals and an assist, while William Holcomb added a goal and two assists. Alec Van de Bovenkamp made nine saves on the day and Kyle Weatherford picked up a team-high five ground balls. High Point kept the Paladins off the board in the first quarter, then pushed the lead to 5-0 with an extra man goal in the first minute of the second quarter. The Paladins got on the board on a goal by David Williamson with just over 13:00 to go in the half, before the Panthers responded with back-to-back scores before Lou Yovino netted his first goal of the afternoon to cut the lead to 7-2. The Panthers again responded with back-to-back scores to push the lead to 9-2, before Sorrells tallied his first score of the day to cut the lead to six at 9-3 with 3:39 remaining. High Point closed out the first half the same way it opened the game, getting a goal from Peyton Garrett to push the lead to 10-3 heading into halftime. The Paladins strung together back-to-back goals at the beginning of the third quarter to cut the lead to 10-5, but the Panthers responded with four-straight to push the lead to 14-5 with 11:46 to go in the fourth. The Paladins ended the run with back-to-back goals to cut the lead in half with 6:41 remaining, but the Panthers got a goal with 3:33 to go to take the 15-7 victory. High Point was led offensively by Peyton Garrett with three goals, while Asher Nolting added two and four assists. Furman is back in action next weekend, traveling to USAFA, Colo., to take on the Air Force Academy in a matchup of one-loss SoCon teams.
