Freshman Rachel Hall broke her own school record with 21 saves Thursday in the Oregon lacrosse team's 2019 finale, a 17-6 loss to Stanford in the Pac-12 Tournament quarterfinals at Papé Field. Hall, a freshman from Cypress, Texas, had 16 saves in the first half to keep the Ducks (3-15) within striking distance. She weathered 47 shots overall, and set the school single-game record for the third time this season. "To see 29 shots in the first half and come away with 16 saves in the first half, she did her job," first-year UO coach Chelsea Gamble said. "I just wsh we could have complemented her a little bit more as a team, worked it into the clear and minimized some of our turnovers early." How It Happened: The Ducks struck first four minutes into the game when sophomore Lillian Stump scored the first of what would be three goals for her on the night. But Stanford scored four straight before the Ducks got on the board again, when the program's all-time leading scorer, Shannon Williams, converted on a free position shot. The score was 10-3 at halftime despite the best efforts of Hall. Sophomore Claire Domshick got the Ducks within 12-4 early in the second half, and the Ducks got back-to-back goals from Stump and freshman Jamie Level late in the game. "I think we got away from the game plan when we started to get down a little bit," Gamble said. "We got a little tight, and we didn't really rely on our ball movement on offense. We just started to feel like one person could do it all, or that one goal was going to catch us up. I wish we had calmed down a little bit, but they played their hearts out." Hall's Big Night: Oregon's freshman goalkeeper recorded the third-most saves in a game this season across the NCAA, finishing with 21. Entering play across the nation Thursday, only Ria Peralta of VCU and Emma Privitera of Hartford had more, with 22 each. Hall set the UO record with 19 saves against California on March 8, and broke it again with 20 against Ohio State on March 30. They're a team that shoots a lot, and in a zone, we give up shots," Hall said. "But they're shots that I wanted to see, so I was OK with that. I like to play that way — I like to see a lot of shots. That keeps me ready and in the game." Williams Honored Pregame: Prior to the game's start, Williams was honored in a ceremony to mark her Pac-12 women's lacrosse scholar-athlete of the year award. Williams, a senior from Bel Air, Md., is a double major in human physiology and biology. She has a 3.95 cumulative grade-point average.
