The Cabrini men's lacrosse team reclaimed its place atop the conference table today, as the Cavaliers topped Gwynedd Mercy 21-6 to win the first ever Atlantic East Conference championship and its 19th consecutive conference title overall. The Blue and White's 10th consecutive win improved the club to 17-2 overall, tied for the most wins in a season in program history. The Cavaliers must now wait until the NCAA Selection Show on Sunday night at 9pm to learn their NCAA Tournament fate. The show will be broadcast on NCAA.com. Senior Jordan Krug was named Most Valuable Player after recording career highs of 11 points and eight assists to go with four goals. With today's output, Krug stands just eight points behind Casey Grugan for the top spot on the program's career points list. Krug was just one of 11 Cavaliers to find the back of the GMercyU cage on the day. Sophomore Kyle Tucker match career highs with five goals and seven points, while junior Jakob Klein matched Krug's four goals. The Cavaliers sparked much of thier success at the faceoff spot, where they won 21 of the game's 31 draws. Sophomore Luke McCallion went 10-15, while freshman Jake Huey claimed eight of his 11 chances as both matched Krug and junior Tommy DeLuca with five ground balls. Senior goaltender Riley White recorded eight saves in his 45 minutes of action to secure the victory, while senior Cassius Christie and junior Matt Nestler added four stops each in relief. Cabrini never allowed the Griffins to find their footing early in the game, as Tucker found Klein for the game's first goal just 2:28 in the game. Tucker netted his first marker 40 second later, then Krug posted a natural hat trick in a span of just 3:26. By the end of the quarter, the Cavaliers built a commanding 6-0 lead on the strength of five points from Krug. Senior Bill Morgan opened the second quarter with a man-up goal, but the Griffins responded with back to back goals. Cabrini quelled any hope of a comeback with the next 10 unanswered goals, a run that continued into the third quarter. Krug hit classmate Nicholas Waligurski in the final seconds of the period to extend Cabrini's lea to 12-2 at the half. The halftime break did nothing to slow the Blue and White offense, as five different players marked the scoring column in the third, as the advantage swelled to 17-2 before GMercyU senior Ryan Simpson ended the run at the 4:40 mark. The Cavaliers got the goal back with just two seconds left in the third quarter, as Krug and Klein connected for a man-up goal and an 18-3 lead with 15 minutes to play. Senior Joe Pandolfi and freshman Jacob Dzierzgowski led the Griffins (10-6) with three points, combining for three goals and three assists. Freshman goaltender Aubron Swartley suffered the loss despite recording 14 saves.
