Georgetown University's men's lacrosse team defeated visiting NJIT, 15-6, in its 2018 home finale on Saturday afternoon. With the win, the No. 18/17 Hoyas improve to 9-4 on the season. Despite not playing a BIG EAST opponent, the Blue & Gray also secured a berth in the BIG EAST Championship thanks to the conference results of the day. Georgetown will make its first appearance in the league tournament since 2015. Six different Hoyas scored goals on the day, including a trio of hat tricks and three players posting their first collegiate goals. Robert Clark (Cooksville, Md./McDonogh School) notched five goals, including a hat trick in just 2:05 of game time to kick things off, while Jake Carraway (Annapolis, Md./St. Mary's) had four goals and four assists on the day for eight points. Matt Behrens (Bronxville, N.Y./Bronxville) added three goals and as assist. Derek Altobello (Potomac, Md./Churchill), Kevin Petrillo (Herndon, Va./Westfield) and Niko Gekas (Roswell, Ga./Roswell) all found the back of the cage for the first time on the Hilltop as well. Georgetown assisted on 11 of its 15 goals on the day. Along with Carraway's four helpers, Zeke Morrill (Baltimore, Md./Gilman/Deerfield) added two and Behrens, Craig Berge (Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa), Austin McDonald (Olney, Md./Georgetown Prep), Peter Tagliaferri (Danville, Calif./San Ramon Valley) and Lucas Wittenberg (Kennesaw, Ga./Harrison/Mercer) all added one. The Hoyas dominated the `X', winning 19-of-25 (.760) faceoffs on the day. Tagliaferri went 9-for-11 (.818), Cade Heverly (Ridley, Pa./Ridley) went 6-for-8 (.750) and Riley Mann (Naperville, Ill./Benet Academy) went 4-for-6 (.667). Tagliaferri led GU with six ground balls while Gibson Smith (Pelham, N.Y./Pelham Manor) added five and both Behrens and Heverly collected four. Georgetown dominated the game from the opening faceoff and scored three goals, all from Clark, in the first 2:05 of the game. The Hoyas shut the Highlanders out in the first period, 7-0, as the defense allowed just one shot in the quarter. In the second, GU added another five goals and pulled its starters after going up 11-1 in the half. NJIT managed three goals in the frame, two in man-up situations including one 6-on-4 possession. Leading 12-3 at the half, the Blue & Gray used wholesale substitutions in the second half as every Hoya that dressed played extensive minutes in the game. Both teams scored a lone goal in the third and two in the fourth as GU wrapped up the victory. Collin Fogerty led NJIT (1-14) with three goals. Georgetown returns to action as it closes out the BIG EAST regular season on the road at St. John's on Saturday, April 28.
