The seventh-ranked York College men's lacrosse team used an eight goal third quarter to break open a close game as the Spartans cruised past Eastern University 18-8 on Saturday in York. The Spartans outscored the Eagles 12-3 in the second half after York held a slight 6-5 lead at the break. The Spartans got a pair of Brendan McGrath goals to tie the game with 47 seconds left in the first period. Eastern's Mark Buannic found the back of the net with five seconds left in the first period to give the Eagles a 3-2 advantage. • The Spartans tied the game early in the second quarter on a Dylan Wolf goal. The Eagles responded with another Buannic goal and a Braxton Brent tally as the Eagles led 5-3. York ended the quarter strong as McGrath, Hunter Davis, and McGrath again each scored to give York the halftime lead. • The Green and White blew the game open in the third quarter as they outscored Eastern 8-1. Davis scored 43 seconds into the second half. Anthony Yeoman found the back of the cage for the Eagles at the 12:50 mark to cut the Spartans lead to 7-6. That's when the Spartan offense went off. York scored seven straight goals to end the period. McGrath, Brad Casale, and Thomas Pfeiffer each scored two goals on the run while Davis scored the other for York. • While the offense was cooking, the defense, led by goalie Jack Michael, started to lock down the Eagles, allowing the offense to put the game away. • The Spartans scored the first two goals of the fourth quarter to increase the run to nine goals as the lead ballooned to 16-6. The teams each got a pair of goals in the final 8:14 of the game to provide for the Spartans' final 10 goal margin of victory.
