Lexington, Va. – With the game tied at six, a five-goal second half run propelled Furman to an 11-7 win over VMI on Saturday on VMI's Drill Field #2. The win moves Furman to 2-6 on the year and 2-0 in SoCon play, while the loss drops VMI to 1-6, 0-3 in SoCon play. The Paladins were led by freshman Jarrett Birth with four goals and an assist on the day, while Chad Kreuzer added two goals. Alec Van de Boveknhamp played all 60:00 in goal for the Paladins, making 12 saves and picking up four ground balls. Furman opened an early 2-0 lead on goals by Zach Scott and Jarrett Birch, before VMI responded with a goal to cut the lead to 2-1 with just under five minutes remaining in the first. Gus Pinsoneault then netted his first goal of the day to put the Paladins back up two goals at the end of the first 15:00. VMI opened the second quarter with a goal, cutting the lead to one, but the Paladins used another goal from Birch to push the lead back to two with 11:52 to go in the half. The Keydets again cut the lead to one, but the Paladins used Birch's third goal of the half and a score by Mike Liscombe to take a 6-3 lead into halftime. The Keydets opened the second half on a 3-0 run to tie the game at six, but Birch scored his fourth goal of the day with one minute to go in the third and the Paladins used four-straight goals to open the fourth quarter to open a lead that VMI would not overcome, as the Keydets were held scoreless until netting the game's final goal with just over five minutes remaining to give the Paladins the 11-7 victory. VMI was led by Austin Henry with two goals and an assist, while Ryan Perouty added two goals. Bill Osteen made seven saves in goal, and AJ Krstulovic was 18-21 from the faceoff 'X'. Furman is back in action on Saturday, March 31, closing out the month with a 1:00 p.m. matchup at Mercer.
